Calling the great war (ww1 and ww2, because the second one wouldnt have happened without the poor resolution of the first), the biggest war the planet has seen so far, and thankfully so far the only time any country has used nuclear weapons in war, "not even a footnote in European history", is just absurd. This is a major event of the history of mankind as a whole, not just Europe, with major repercussions to this day.
