Hindsite wrote:What you don't seem to understand is that if the Democrats get in power, they will not be content to just raise the big cooperation taxes. I am just a regular average guy and after Bush lowered my taxes, Obama and Biden came along and increased my taxes along with many others just like me. So I was happy when Trump came alone and lowered my taxes along with the big cooperation's taxes. Businesses pay the salaries for most of Americans and if they receive tax breaks, it means that they can hire more people and can pay bigger salaries and our overall economy increases. Joe Biden and the Democrats will raise taxes because they are for bigger government control so that they can rule over the average working person and those that pay their salaries.

You say this as if somehow Democratic party is something new that never was in power before and we didn't see how they operate.
The economy has been better under democratic than under republican presidents with better growth and better job growth. The last two major downturns both occurred in the last 20 years and both occurred under Republican presidents.
Trickle-down economics is a fantasy.

The U.S. has notched records for new infections in late June and early July, with daily cases reaching 60,000 for the first time. On Sunday, Florida logged 15,000 new cases, surpassing the daily record reported by any single state since the start of the outbreak.

Dr. Fauci said the U.S. was still “knee-deep” in its first wave of coronavirus infections, describing the outbreak as “serious situation that we have to address immediately.”

Don The Con: “I think we are in a good place. I disagree with him.” And speaking with Fox News’ Sean Hannity last Thursday, Trump remarked that “Dr. Fauci is a nice man, but he’s made a lot of mistakes.”

trump retweeted messages from the politically conservative former game show personality Chuck Woolery — who served stints hosting “Wheel of Fortune” and “Love Connection” — which lamented the “most outrageous lies” being spread about the coronavirus pandemic.

A game show host who served stints hosting “Wheel of Fortune” and “Love Connection” or Dr. Fauci an American physician and immunologist who has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984. Who ya gonna trust with your life folks?

A crime against America of historic proportions is unfolding right before our eyes folks. Don The Con is literally opting to let thousands of American citizens die to promote his unquenchable thirst for money and power.

Disgusting.

Sickening.

Anybody that comes close to trump ends up losing or tainting their reputation. Does not matter if they are close because they are their ally, adversary and as we can see with Fauci (and prior people, including military) apolitical.
I don't know why this has been so hard to understand. If I were fauci I would have quit on day one.

What are you, some sorta pointy-head? :eh:

Why, the game-show host of course! People have seen him on tv, and he always had a nice smile for the camera. He must know what he's talking about! :)

So do I, Biden's actually competitive there. Do the Bushes have something to do with it perhaps? :hmm:

No, Trump is not losing in Texas. Aside from the polls, most signs are good for Trump.

Enthusiasm seems to be as high as ever, if not higher. Approval rating in the Republican party stays stable at around 95%. Republican new voter registrations are vastly outpacing Democrat new voter registrations in key swing states. Recently there was also a boat parade for Trump in North Carolina, arguably a swing state (or a blue state according to the above map) that attracted an estimated 150,000 to 300,000 boats. Possibly a historic event to see so many boats turn out for a Presidential candidate.

The historically high turnout for this boat parade suggests good things because unlike Trump's recent rally, coronavirus, counter-protestors and so-on can't suppress boat parade attendance but they can suppress rally attendance.

Also, Republicans have won every special election in the past several months by a wide margin.

Lastly, they continue to have a large monetary advantage.

In conclusion, the Democrats don't seem to have anything to point to besides the polls and we know how the polls have gone recently.

wat0n wrote:It's more complicated than that. Texas' White demographics are changing, being the largest net recipient of millennials in the US. IIRC most are leaving California over high housing prices - wanna guess how they vote? ;)

The Bushes and their men like Pat Robertson and John Bolton being against Trump or even supporting Biden publicly must have something to do with it. Much of the GOP is in their hands or pockets in Texas, so it's hard for anyone to go ahead there against them. Changes in demographics generally help the Democrats everywhere, I guess.

Fake News.

There aren't that many boats in the state. There are Total Documented Vessels with North Carolina Owners 9,297. Of these only 7200 or so are private boats. The rest are commercial boats or barges.

So tell us sport. Why do you make bullshit like this up? Why is it necessary to lie for Trump? You are making yourself look really stupid. This, of course, is completely in line with what we would expect from a Trump supporter. There may not be, in all of the US a dumber group of people around.

You see how I did that? I made you look even stupider than just being a Trump supporter would have all by itself. And I never once called you a pathetic trolling dumbass.

@blackjack21 , you said;

Well, I think it's pretty simple: the establishment was willfully ignoring the voters. Not every faction is going to get what they want in terms of policy, but Trump hit on the intersection (I don't want to be mistaken for this notion of "intersectionality") of wages, trade and immigration that has had a massive impact on working class voters whether they are on the political right or political left.

There's an innate tension between the rulers who have to make the decisions about the overall governance of society, and everybody else, who is going about their lives as best as they know how. The Elites cannot get so out of touch with the people that they don't understand the very people they rule, but on the other hand They can't always follow where the people want to be led, so to speak.

All that being said, Western Elites are very much out of touch with their peoples and with reality in general. When that happens in History, there is a 'rotation of the Elites' soon thereafter.

Trump also fairly uniquely listened to black voters. Likewise, they won't get everything they want either, but they did get funding for historically black colleges, and they got prison sentencing reform. The thing is, you would have expected Obama to do that, but he really didn't do much for blacks as a function of listening to them. He could hand out Obamaphones, but that was really another welfare state giveaway to big businesses--making guys like Carlos Slim richer.

President Trump is a lot of things, but one thing he most emphatically is not, is Racist. This again shows the stupidity of the Elites who are against him, and their weakness and ineffectiveness is matched by their frothing hatred and vitriol. About the only thing that is absolutely Evil to a Liberal anymore is Racism (or Sexism, couple other things), everything else is relative, and so Trump has to be Racist because ''Orange man bad''. I suggest that he may be evil in the classical and Christian absolute sense, but they can't hit him there without being seen as hypocrites, because they are often very much like he is morally and ethically, or far worse... His faults are normal and all-too-human faults, bad as they may be. Some of theirs cry out to Heaven for vengeance.

The other thing I suggest to searching minds and hearts is that his appeal is not a function of the people's stupidity, but the very real evil of Liberalism making a vote for him basically a vote for human civilization, as far as their concerned. People don't remove a fireman while putting out a fire because he's a bad man; if he puts out the fire, he's done enough to receive their thanks. Not saying I necessarily agree, but good people out there are thinking that way, and so the Democrats are losing them forever, and don't seem to care. After all, new voters can be imported to replace the old ones who don't see their value as a party anymore, right?

Yeah, I was for Cruz in 2016. He's a very sharp guy, and I'm guessing he has learned a lot watching Trump. It will be interesting to see what he does in 2024.

I have my problems with him, but yes I think he's someone to be watched for the future. I also understood why he did what he did in not endorsing Trump in 2016, prudent and with a statesman's foresight perhaps.

Doug64 wrote:That's going to be the trick, and answer the question of whether the coalition can hold. So long as the tariffs and trade war is over reciprocal trade and not having vital supplies produced by our enemies, it'll work. If we get to the point of the populists pushing for protectionist tariffs against countries that don't have such of their own, there'll be a problem. Likewise with immigration. So long as the focus is on enforcing our immigration laws and so effectively stopping illegal migration, it'll work. Perhaps even restricting chain migration to spouses, minor children, and maybe parents. But beyond that, a push for heavy restriction of immigration could also cause a rift.

In both cases the Democrats could take advantage of the potential rift, they'd actually have an easier time of it since those voters that are the true populists have traditionally been Democrats and would probably be willing to revert if given the chance. But it would require the Democrats to abandon their socialism, identity politics, open borders stance, and take a more nationalistic (not to say patriotic) position. I don't think they can. At this point, if they try they lose their entire Left flank.

It wouldn't be the first time a party has either ceased to exist or had to spend time out of political power for a few years while they had a political enema flush the toxic loons out. I'm going for the first option as most probable.

And these moderate tax increases (because there are already taxes in place for medicare) would be far more than offset for both business and individuals by the reduced need for health insurance. Most people would see a dramatic reduction of their net outlay.

I have to disagree. The Democratic Party survived the slavery crisis, it can survive this. Mind it would take some years—they’d have to convince the far-Left to abandon them and form another third party, then work on wooing the populists back—but it could be done. There are few people more pragmatic than professional politicians.

So, your paymaster Donald has decided to take the advice of a game show host over the advice of a an American physician and immunologist who has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984 ………… sounds about what we expect from the incompetent clown in the WH after 3+ years of endless examples of his incompetence.

Wrong too many times? "Wrong" I assume meaning not agreeing with the Godfather of the trump gang.

Your boy Don The Con is never wrong. He has never accepted responsibility for his fuckups so, I assume, these beauties issued by your boy are "right" .

“We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

“Looks like by April, you know, in theory, when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.”

“The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. … Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

“It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

“We’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

“I always treated the Chinese Virus very seriously, and have done a very good job from the beginning."

Maybe I got confused as I spent about 1 minute on my post. Possibly the source I read confused estimated people with estimated boats. I thought it sounded too high. Someone who doesn't name the person in quotes because they're hoping they won't be responded to shouldn't be calling what other people do bullshit :)
