Political Science is science. If you had ever taken a PoliSci course you would know that.

The social "sciences" are "science" insofar as they are systematized knowledge. Social sciences are not objective because these deal with fundamentally irrational and often unpredictable beings. Positivism in social sciences is a deluded fantasy; nonsense propagated by social science scholars.

I say that despite studying a field of social science.

By science i mean a REAL science

Natural sciences ftw.

I kinda wish I was more interested in math or at least was less of a hypochondriac to pursue a degree in physics or medicine. Darn. :knife:

What's your view on libertarian socialism?

generally as i strongly doubt there being any goodness in human nature functioning in a group, it seems to me even more doubtful that any of all ideologies tending either to its total freedom or natural equality work.

as for sciences, social sciences are definitely less objective. nevertheless, statistics are an objective tool often used.

Wow, I suggest you guys actually learn more about what Political/Social Sciences are and how they deal with matters before you continue making these uninformed claims about them.

Welcome to PoFo.

Annatar wrote:A true product of the EU, indeed.

False. What currently goes under the name of 'socialism', especially in Western Europe, is actually nothing of the kind - it's petty-bourgeois egalitarianism, not unlike the bourgeois Enlightenment values embodied in the American Declaration of Independence. By your definition, even Ronald Reagan was a 'socialist', since he believed that "all men are created equal".

Abood Posted: I never knew Greece is in the Balkans.

Probably because it had been the only county in Balknans out of the Soviets' block and a NATO member...

...by the way, where you thought is Greece? :)

Actually a smaller part of Turkey is in the Balkans, too.

What are your views on EU expansion? Should EU include Russia or Turkey?

I know where Greece is. It just never crossed my mind that it's in the Balkan peninsula.

Oh, and I forgot: Welcome!

I might be going to Athens for a couple of days in July.

a true product of the EU. False.

The statement had nothing to do with politics but geography: the three countries i come from are EU members, so it was just a light comment, nothing political.
And tending towards socialism does not mean one agrees with the way it is applied (or rather the way the socialist parties apply it). Which I think is pretty clear in what i say at the beginning. Never said that what is currently going on is socialism, I dont believe so. Especially as Europe has been turning pretty right in the past ten years. The only socialist i said i respected is actually a social democrat, which is not the same thing. I also clearly stated my dislike for the french socialist party.

Take an economics class.

Thanks. once again, never said it was applicable in all fields. Once again, its clear in what i say. I even said i agree with some right concepts, especially in economics.
Here also depends on how its applied. But here again, a free market is necessary but doesnt have to be unhealthily so.

the option of reading what the other person says until the end, is usually pretty helpful, so they dont repeat themselves... :)

EU expansion is a difficult one... Im not exactly what I believe anymore. The ten new countries coming in all at once, had some bad effects, especially on the peoples perception of europe (one saw that in the referedums where founding countries rejected the constitution). Feeling european hadnt been consolidated enough before it all happened. So I dont really know bout other countries. I actually think Turkey should have entered before the ten others. It wouldnt have given people the sense of chaos and being overwhelmed. As for Russia, its hardly in Europe, and the russians dont even want to enter the EU.

By the way, whats PoFo?

Just a note, Libertarians tend to be condescending, because they believe that if you don't believe in the Holy Free Market, you must be unenlightened and thus ignorant. Ignoring them is your best deal.

Social Sciences aren't real sciences. I don't know why that is something to be ashamed of though. A field of study doesn't have to be a "science" to be respectable.

Right, but it's simply false to claim that social sciences aren't "real" sciences. If they weren't science, they would be renamed to something other than social science.
