What is the demographic overlap between academic major/discipline and political orientation?
Is there much truth to the sense that humanities majors are liberals if not more left-wing whilst practical hard science majors like engineers are conservatives?
If so, what sort of relationship is there between the views and values underpinning a person's politics and their academic pursuit?
