The understanding of the present is dominated by people's understanding of the past, and the popular historical consciousness is dominated by two sets of events, World War II and the post 16th century United States. So first off there's a need to see these two sets of events as part of the same simplistic moral pattern. Hence I get cretins accusing me of being a Hitlerphile and a "white" supremacist. I mean how stupid is that? Hitler genocided more "White" people than any other person in history.
According to these people the Japanese are not White, and apparently count as coloured. But White is a colour you (the person with at least half a brain) say, so White people must be coloured. Yes well logic, science and basic facts are not the strong point of your average "Liberal". They never seem to know what colour the Japanese are if they are not White. Anyway Adolf Hitler, the supposed great "White supremacist" as well as genociding more of these supposed White people than any other man in history sided with non-White Japan to try and bring down the "White supremacist" British, French and American empires.
Then we come to the term "fascist". Now it might be nice to think that this obsession with fascism comes out of a hatred of "anti-Semitism". And in the run up to Christmas with Band Aid's "Do they know its Christmas time at all?" ringing in my ears every time I go to the supermarket, it might seem like "The Liberals" really do care about Amharan people. It might seem like "Liberals" obsession with the term "fascism" is because they really care so much about Amharan identity, Amharan culture and the Amharan right to self determination.
But sadly no. Believe you me, the average "Liberal" is so ignorant that the line "Do they know its Christmas time at all?" has no sense of irony at all. No they are completely ignorant of the traditional time for the celebration of Christmas in Amharan culture.
Ah but at least the obsession with fascism is justified because this was the great archetypal conflict between "White supremacist" Indo-Europeans and "Black" Semites. No again trust me, the average "Liberal" is so ignorant that they are not even aware that Amharans are Semites.
Some are so ignorant that I'm not even sure that they even aware that Mussolini invaded Ethiopia. No the obsession with "Fascism" is related to nothing more than the fact that Mussolini sided with Hitler, so it must have been a fascist alliance. No thought is given to the fact that democratic Finland also sided with Hitler or that Saudi Arabia sided with the allies, or that Poland and Nationalist China were harldy paragons of anti-authoritarianism.
No this is a simplified childish view of history and life. "Fascism" has no narrow defined meaning. It is therefore quite reasonable to say that Fascist Italy was less fascist than the Soviet Union. Mussolini's removal by the king was the very opposite of a totalitarian system.
