There are many problems with your argument that self esteem issues in young women is solely due to hormones.
First of all, you made the bizarre and unnecessary claim that this does not happen to males. It is a fact that young men and middle aged men going through hormone changes are more likely to deal with depression.
Secondly, it is easy to find evidence of things like economic security and family warmth having a positive effect on self esteem for young women (and male teens for that matter).
