Unemployment Rate Falls to 5.9 Percent

WASHINGTON Dec. 5 — The nation's unemployment rate slipped to 5.9 percent in November, the lowest level in eight months, but employers added new jobs at a slower pace than expected.

The Labor Department reported Friday that the rate fell from 6 percent in October. The last time it was lower was in March, at 5.8 percent.

Ah yes. Our evil capitalist society has ushered in some of the highest living standards for the common man than most other countries in the world, especially compared those extremely socialist ones (i.e. Mao China, former Soviet Union, and North Korea).

And by the common man, I mean that class of people which accounts for the largest percentage of the total population.

Does this mean that tax cuts stimulate the economy?

What a concept. A proven winner, wins again.

Excellent, it was a pity about trickle-down not improving national incomes in the 80s, but this shows the low tax economy still works.

You guys do know that the unemployment rate doesnt represent the amount of unemployed people in the nation right? So the unemployment rate is actually a false figure ...

You could have a population of 20% unemployed yet have an unemployment rate of 2% ...
The story ends, it just ends.

What's the rate based on, then?

The rate is based on the amount of people RECIEVING umemployment benefits ...

But guess what? Once the benefits run out, you are no longer considered unemployed.
The story ends, it just ends.

A max of 26 weeks depending on the situation, after that you are no longer unemployed. And its not like everyone gets the max, thats just the max limit ... I believe its based upon how long you worked and how much money you made.

If you want to read up on it you can check this LINK

But again, a low unemployment rate doesnt mean a high employment rate.
The story ends, it just ends.

It is the same here.

The unemployment rate and the employment rate are decreasing simultaneously. ;-)

They are simply manipulating the unemployment statistics.

You its so amazing that these neo-cons get a hardon every time the "unemployment rate" falls by an asutonishing 0.1%...And yet they didn't mention anything when it went from a 5.8% to a 6% in Novemeber.... :p

But one thing is clear...the unemployment rate has been VERY STEADY all these time...regardless of Bush bull-crap tax cuts and suppsed recovery. The recovery is only for the rich who lost billions...not for the workers. They still don't have jobs...and a change from 6% to 5.9%...when the previous month it was from 5.8% to 6%...doesn't show much you genious neo-cons

Hey Tova, while you and I see eye to eye on the issue at hand please refrain from such comments as 'you genious neo-cons' as it is inflammatory and will only lead to one thing ... flaming. And that means more work for me ... As for anyone reading Tovas post please respond to whatever points he may have made and ignore inflammatory comments.

We had no need to say anything about it because all you leftists would not let it rest. We kept pointing to better times in response to all your doom and gloom. Now we feel we must mention the improvements because when there is an improvement you leftists are guilty of being very silent about it. It's bad news for you, Tov, as you want America to fail regardless of who is in power and what policies they use.

We have gone over all this before, and you continue to restate positions that have already been debunked. The economy is now roaring back with figures better than they have been for 20 years. We have also repeatedly pointed out that unemployment is a lagging indicator, usually by 7-10 months. Unemployment figures are sluggish on any trend whether it is up or down.
