Which would you rather be in your occupation [ or future occupation ]?

I would like to be the best; because of the hands-on and classwork nature of teaching, it wouldn't make much sense to be the most famous. In any occupation I would prioritize being the best [ with most famous coming in second, and best-paid in third ].

I would choose "most famous", assuming this can be equated with "most influential". I want to help bring Keynesian economics back in vogue.

The most well-paid.

I don't give a rat's ass about fame (though it would be nice), and being the best would require more effort than I'm prepared to give if I'm not well-paid. A job well done is indeed rewarding, but it don't pay for itself.

I assume the most influential men are also the most low-profiled ones. Oh well you'll learn with the time...

It depends what my occupation is. If it's something in the arts, I would rather be most famous so that people remember me after I die and I become "classic".

Actually, I guess that goes for all occupations. What do I care how good my work was once I'm dead? What matters, to me anyways, is that I and my work live on and are taught in history books in the future. That would usually mean settling for "one of" the best anyways, which is fine with me.

After seeing Nets's post, I must say I wanna change my answer.

I'd say I wanna be the most influential, too. I wanna transform my home country into the Caribbean Tiger it used to be. I want to turn it into a functioning example of a libertarian laissez-faire economy and prove once and for all that such an economy is viable and just.

Dr. House, I hate to say it but I think if you ran PR 50% of the population would starve.

That's a good point. I meant to say "most influential in my field". Better?

I don't want to get into a debate here and derail the thread, House, but I strongly believe that a laissez faire economy isn't equitable or preferable.

Basically, my views are all around unpopular. Too regulatory/welfare state for the libertarians and too capitalist for the Socialists.

You all fail.

The best

The rest will follow.

Edit: Van doesn't fail though. That's a valid wish.

I really just want to be the best. I realize that there are more intelligent people out there and in reality I will never be the best in my field, but it's still my goal to be as good as I can be. I don't really care much about fame, but I suppose if I would be the best I would contribute something significant that will bring me some fame. Also I was never too fond of money, I only want enough to have what I would see as a comfortable lifestyle, and I can certainly achieve that on a professor's salary if I get there.

Most well paid coming in a close second.

Civil Engineers are never famous :(
(Even Agripa and DaVinci are not well known in their Civil Engineering capacity)

Well-paid.

My dream is to be incredibly wealthy, but not be famous at all. I value my privacy and wouldn't want to be heckled to the point where I have to be hermitic just to be left alone.

I pity those celebrities who have to go to some island in the middle of nowhere just to not have a camera or microphone stuck in their face.

I'd rather just live in my huge mansion away from everything but my hookers and blow.
