China is ready for a mid-June launch of the Shenzhou 9 manned space capsule. The capsule is to dock with the orbiting Tiangong 1 space module. The Shenzhou 9 capsule which is to launch three astronauts and the Long-March F2 launch vehicle are being prepared on the launch pad at the Jiuquan space center. One of the three astronauts may be a woman. This will be the first docking operation with the Tiangong 1 module.

China started its manned space program in 1990 and launched the first astronaut into space in 2003 - as third nation to do so. Since then, China has carried out a number of manned space flights. It expects to have a fully operational space station in orbit by 2020.
