For example President Hu Jintao was trained as a hydraulic engineer. Likewise his Premier, Wen Jiabao, is a geomechanical engineer, etc.
This same sort of ratio is found at all levels of the Chinese government.

Jiang Zemin was an electrical engineer. Li Peng also an engineer. Since Deng there have been a lot of people from this kind of background in leadership positions.

A lot of people recruited into al-Qaeda from places like Egypt were Engineering Uni grads and the like who couldn't find jobs and became disenchanted.
