Mari, a street dog living in the Lhasa Stray Dog Adoption Center of Tibet, is wandering around the big yard without haste, eating foods provided by the staff and bathing in the sunshine. Mari has enjoyed a happy life filled with concern and love that it maybe never experienced before.

Mari in Tibetan language means red and chubby. Though the dog Mari hasn't grown into a little red and round doggie after recovering from a serious illness, his physical condition is getting much better.

"Mari was dying at the time when it was sent to the adoption center. In order to help it, we not only cure it with Tibetan medicine, but also offer it a single doghouse and private attention. Now we are full of confidence for its recovery," said Dawa, a worker in the Lhasa Stray Dog Adoption Center.

Over 2,000 stray dogs living in the adoption center are as lucky as Mari. They are spending the first warm winter in the new home after adoption.

About 20km away from the down town of Lhasa City, the adoption center was put into use at the end of 2013. It is the first public stray dog adoption center in Tibet, covering an area of 13,334 square meters. It was invested by the Lhasa government, and could accommodate more than 2,000 dogs with 96 kennels.

Mimar Tsering,an official from the city appearance management committee of Lhasa said; "The Lhasa government took a comprehensive consideration on the problems of history, religion, sanitation and transportation safety, and finally decided to build the first stray dog adoption center."

"Let the baby dogs and disabled dogs eat more," said the 68-year-old lady Tsamla, "I think it makes total sense to build such an adoption center."
