Red wine typically costs about USD $15 per bottle in the USA right now.

But with $15 you can make two bottles of your own homemade cherry wine.

This is my latest batch. Some of the wine plus the vat dregs were used to distill cherry schnapps, which is the 3 shot glass on the left in the photo.

This wine came to 14% alcohol and tastes a lot like pinot noir. It is made from cherries however.

The cherry schnapps came to 120 proof (60%). You can only distill schnapps once or else it loses its cherry flavor. Therefore since it is a single distillation you get a splitting headache from the same chemicals that gives it that district cherry flavor and bouquet.
