Why not try realism? Politics is war and peace, just this, the rest is economics. If politics is war, then the only concern of politics should be war and peace. Governments should only be what they once were, military protection rackets.

I can see anarchism working in a small commune or agrarian land but not a nation wide, with a huge urban area and population.

The system wants to control and dominate the individual, it's up to brave individuals to slow down or weaken this inevitable ever increasing control by any means. One day humanity will transcend governments and their protection rackets, it is just a matter of time.

It certainly easier to imagine anarchism working in small communes however even in the smallest of small communes the nuclear family there is the emergent phenomena of leaders, hierarchy and discipline. Only a an extreme individualist can sustainably remain an anarchy but an anarchy of one is arguably simultaneously a monarchy with no subjects. Collective organisation requires leadership, hierarchy and discipline in order to be coherent and functional and therefore must be some kind of -archy but not anarchy.

It is called evolution.
First you must have faith in human nature. Religion seems to be loosing it's power over the individual especially noticeable in the West and I believe that there concept of government will loose it's popularity as well. Possibly we are talking many many hundreds of years and possibly thousands. This evolution of humanity will occur when there is a super abundance of food and material goods.
