Actually, the prices on bikes with disc brakes haave come WAY down...I was looking at bikes for my nephew and saw several cheap ones with discs.

I have to say I have never even HEARD of studded bicycle tires until seeing this thread! But yes, a dozen or so zip-ties around each tire would certainly work on ice.

(Then again, so does taking my enclosed, weathertight, heated car.)

Disc brakes are minimally 80$ each. A set of 2 rim calipers will cost you less than 20$.

When did you try the plastic ties on ice?
