The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018,[2] after the country was awarded the hosting rights on 2 December 2010.
This will be the first World Cup held in Europe since the 2006 tournament in Germany, and the first ever to be held in Eastern Europe. All of the stadium venues are in European Russia, to keep travel time manageable.
The final tournament will involve 32 national teams, which include 31 teams determined through qualifying competitions and the automatically qualified host team. Of the 32 teams, 20 will be making back-to-back appearances following the last tournament in 2014, including defending champions Germany, while Iceland and Panama will both be making their first appearances at a FIFA World Cup. A total of 64 matches will be played in 12 venues located in 11 cities. The final will take place on 15 July at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Nizhny Novgorod offered food to workers in bid to finish World Cup stadium on time

Authorities in Nizhny Novgorod offered free food and accommodation to workers in a bid to complete construction on the city’s World Cup Russia 2018 host stadium, Reuters reports.
The 45,000-capacity Nizhny Novgorod Stadium is one of the 12 venues that will host the tournament across 11 Russian cities, and it will hold England’s Group G meeting with Panama on June 24, as well as five other matches.

The regional sports ministry sent a letter to the heads of local districts in an effort to persuade them to send municipal workers to Nizhny with the offer of three meals a day, housing and tools for potential takers. Authorities were attempting to make sure the stadium was finished in time to host its inaugural match on April 14.

"Unfortunately the level of the stadium's readiness for the inauguration requires the enlistment of additional labour," the letter, signed by regional sports minister Sergei Panov, said.

"I ask you to send employees from physical activity facilities and other institutions in the field of physical culture and sport (10 people) to Nizhny Novgorod for the completion of construction and general service works at the stadium from April 6 to 14 (inclusively)."

Following the World Cup, the stadium will be handed over to FC Olimpiyets Nizhny Novgorod, who play in the third-tier Russian National Football League.

As they are speeding up work to finish the stadium in time, will it be safe?
If that roof comes down... we will have lost many people. Not exctly Nobel prize winners, OK, but still...

Does someone else feels this WC is being thrown under the rug?? Little promotion world wide, little attention given to it, not much incentive to go see the cup in Russia?? I fear they might try to do some sort of terrorist attack in Russia during the cup, the ones they failed to do in Brazil might end up in Russia.

All the tickets are sold out besides like 2-3 matches who are between heavy underdog teams. :eh:

Kane scored twice with his head and he has an ability to be in the right place at the right time. It was an excellent match. I cannot watch a UK broadcast but I can imagine the excitement of a broadcaster.

Classic England performance. Start really well, spend the next 70 minutes running straight into the opposition and then scrape a lucky winner in the last minute.
