Jesus went down to Jerusalem for Passover mainly because the Torah hardcore commands it, even when he knew some really nasty shit was about to go down. Peter asks him "maby we should skip it this time? For security reasons?" And gets called Satan for saying so.
The Torah gets the Jews to have to do some funky stuff sometimes. Jesus may have "tested" some Torah rules like washing your hands before eating, not getting food from the fields on Sabbath and not taking a footbath from a woman, but he was mostly legit.
Saint Thomas however was definitely exposed to Hinduism at the very least during his travels to India. But then again this was post their "screw this, we're outta here after this" Shavout/Pentecost party.
