I think leadership is a very important art to understand and partake in. Here are some leadership principles I firmly believe in:

1) Success Takes A Team and Trust Your Team- There is no such thing as success without a team. You cannot succeed in life without a solid team backing you. As a leader of that team, you need to trust your team. They may possess knowledge and situational understanding that you don't. They want to win just as bad as you. Empower them to do so.

2) Always Ask Questions- Strive to always gain knowledge. That means getting a good education and understand that you will never stop learning for the rest of your life. Learn new knowledge whether you believe it may be directly relevant or not. Knowledge builds understanding. Understanding breeds decisive action. Decisive actions produce results. You need knowledge because there is no such thing as second place. Second place is the first loser. In life, there is only one podium. Strive to win always.

3) Leaders Eat Last- This not just some show and code where the leader eats last in a chow line. It means you put the needs and welfare of your employees and subordinates above your own. People are your most valuable asset. Act accordingly or be prepared to lose and fail.

4) Lead from the Front, Set the Example- Leaders set the standards of the team. That means the leaders must always be striving to exceed the standards by a long shot. Never accept less. You can't enforce standards on your team that you yourself cannot meet. But, as a leader, you meeting the standard by itself is not acceptable. You have to exceed the standards because you want to constantly push your subordinates to be their best selves and you can't do that if you aren't striving to be your best self.

5) Leaders Do Not Tolerate Low Standards- Leaders do not tolerate low standards in themselves or their subordinates. If they can't meet the standards, they need to resign their leadership position. If they can meet the standards, then they cannot tolerate their team members failing to meet their high standards. As a leader, you only get the standards you tolerate from your subordinates. So don't tolerate low standards and if they fail to meet your standards, they can't be a part of your team.

6) Understand What Truly Motivates People- You will be dealing with various different personality types. Learn those personality types and understand what motivates them to work hard and strive to be their best selves and a team player on the team.

7) All in All The Time- A Navy SEAL saying. This means, you commit fully to the mission and goal and give it your all. Give it your last breath. It's either succeed or die. There is no quitting. It means to be fully committed to your goals and your missions and to be totally "all in." If you aren't "all in" you are not likely to succeed in your goal or mission.

8 ) Small Things Matter- You have to pay attention to the small things in life. If you can't do the small things right, you will never do the big things right such as accomplishing your goal. The small things add up to very large things over a period of time. So, if you pay attention to the small things and give them the attention they deserve, you are building a foundation for success over the long term. Likewise, neglecting the small things means you are building a foundation for failure in the long term. So pay attention to the small things. Small things matter. Attention to detail matters.

These are some of my principles of leadership.
