It's not only about immigration, but as far as this subject is concerned, in my view this is part of a broader issue routed in self-determination/sovereignty. People want to have control over how many and what type of people enter the country. Opposition may well increase as people are being told that there is no alternative to accepting an ever increasing number of immigrants and that any disagreement is proof of their small mindedness, bigotry or worse.
One perspective is that as the centre right adopts centre left policies in an attempt to appeal more to immigrant/minority communities, opportunities are opening up for new right wing parties whose policies often closely resemble those of centre right parties 10 to 20 years ago or for more right wing candidates winning leadership contests.
