because there is a quirk/weakness in human nature that invites undivided devotion to a perceived superior mind/thinker. They strangely abandon their powers of thinking to this performer. Long story short, they are conned. History has many examples. Lenin, Hitler, Julius Caesar, ad infinitum. trump is a supreme con artist and he is well aware of this weakness in human nature and is an expert in the art of the con.

Everyone knows that there was no collusion between Trump or his campaign and the government of Russia. There is no evidence that any Russian interference--running facebook ads, etc.--changed a single vote. There is plenty of evidence that Hillary Clinton's campaign manufactured a "Trump collusion" scandal to use as a political cudgel. Nobody is dismissing that or laughing it away. There is a federal criminal investigation of it right now.

No. It's because there are limited viable choices. People pick the lesser of the two evils as they see it.

You are obsessed with Donald Trump's character, and his off-putting personality. Yet, you seem to have very little criticism for someone who spent his entire adult life in politics.

Trump won because of two issues--illegal immigration and trade. The establishment decided not to be introspective about either of those two issues. They doubled down on them--even offering free health care to illegal aliens. Instead, they decided to wage scandal attacks on Trump, which had some people's interest for a year or so. Now, everybody thinks it's bullshit.

The fact that he's better at it than the CIA and FBI with the entire mainstream media behind them suggests that either Trump is a frigging genius, or the establishment is corrupt and incompetent. Personally, I think it's the latter. That's why I do not want to be ruled by them anymore.

being conducted by trump's personal lawyer …. A.G. Barr. How cool is that? Your personal lawyer is the A.G. of America  .

A top aide to Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham, who is conducting a politically sensitive investigation into the origins of the federal investigation into potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, has resigned from the Justice Department amid mounting pressure from President Donald Trump and his allies to publish results from the probe BEFORE THE ELECTION. In recent interviews, Trump has expressed impatience with the Durham inquiry, suggesting that it should be producing more prosecutions as well as disclosures of information the president contends will be DAMAGING TO HISPOLITICAL RIVALS. The situation also seems to have put a chill in Trump’s relationship with Barr..

"Justice"/trump style. This, like any news that doesn't suck up to trump, is "fake". The overused go to and meaningless excuse of "fake" certainly is getting tedious.

True but, also, his incompetence and his belief that he is above the law and endless lies (OH, let me put that last one in the context of BJ/ Land …… "off putting personality")

The establishment is well known for defending its own. That's why a young Navy guy goes to prison for snapping a selfie in a US Navy sub, but Hillary Clinton gets 10s of thousands of emails, many containing classified information, hacked by "Russians" and she deletes more emails while under subpoena from Congress and nothing happens to her. Your "AG Barr is Trump's personal attorney" rhetoric is for shit. Trump has every right to be angry as does anybody wrongfully prosecuted or investigated. Why is Black Lives Matter a thing ONLY when it involves police and prosecutors, and not when black people are killing each other willy nilly? It's because your criticism is directed at the government, but only very selectively.

He should be as above the law as the people who serve under him, since they derive any authority they exercise directly from him.

You may as well posit that trump's use of the federal judiciary for his own personal advantage is just fine because, contrary to what liberals, communists, Hillary, Obama and Roosevelt and Democrats say …. the cow really did jump over the moon.

And your criticism is not used selectively? Be real ……. I'm sorry BJ, I actually like you and know that we would enjoy a lunch together but it really does seem that Obese Donald has eaten your brain.

How's the fire out by you? can you see anything on the horizon.

Both Mueller and the Senate Intelligence Committee — a Republican-led panel — have extensively documented how Trump committed obstruction of justice (18 U.S. Code § 73), lied to investigators (18 U.S. Code § 1001), and conspired with Russian intelligence to commit an offense against the United States (18 U.S. Code § 371). All three crimes carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison — per charge. According to legal experts, federal prosecutors could be ready to indict Trump on one or more of these felonies as early as the first quarter of 2021.

Boring. Some people might fall for this, but anyone who followed either report knows that neither of them found collusion with Russia. The president is the head of the executive branch. He is the chief law enforcement officer. He cannot obstruct the use of his own power. It's all nonsense. Federal prosecutors cannot indict the president as a matter of policy.
#15119863
Mueller's team is so credible that they wiped all of their phones before the IG could review them, after spending years failing to get a single indictment but they want us to remember that no indictments is not proof of innocence.

We are on different wavelengths here, rightists think that shit like the above is disqualifying and leftists think it's a show of power that improves social standing.

Wrong!

If there is probable cause of crime by the president, he or she can be indicted while in office but the prosecution should be deferred until he or she is no longer president.

Wulfschilde wrote:So you're saying...

No.

It's been federal policy not to indict a president for a crime while he's still in office but that's policy not law.

During the presidency of Bill Clinton and afterward, the Department of Justice ordered research about whether a president could be charged with a crime against his will and while still in office. They concluded that while it is perfectly lawful to indict a sitting president it would be best to save face, spare embarrassment, and not.

Only if you must for legal reasons,

if there is probable cause of crime by the president and the time during which the law requires a prosecution to commence - the statute of limitations - would expire while the president is in office, he or she should be indicted while in office but the prosecution should be deferred until he or she is no longer president,

was their advice.

These are theoretical and normative statements. The president cannot be indicted by federal prosecutors, because it is against policy to do so. They would simply be violating policy, and fired for insubordination. The proper procedure if you think the president has committed a crime is to present the matter to the United States House of Representatives, generally to the leadership of the judiciary committee.

After Donald loses he will no longer be able to hide out in the oval office.

Then there is SDNY all primed and ready to go with, among many other items, tax evasion schemes up the ass :) .

Russian operatives are using a sneakier, more sophisticated version of their 2016 playbook to undermine the November election — and this time, groups inside and outside the U.S. are furthering their goal of sowing chaos. Russian state-backed hackers are waging cyberattacks against political parties, campaigns, consultants and others tied to the U.S. elections — using more elaborate deceptions than in 2016, Microsoft said last week.

Trump’s top counterintelligence official, William Evanina, has agreed that Moscow is seeking to attack the election. He told lawmakers last month that Russia aims to “denigrate” Biden “and what it sees as an anti-Russia ‘establishment.” Those efforts — plus influence campaigns by China and Iran — are "a direct threat to the fabric of our democracy," he said in an earlier statement.

Last week, the Treasury Department imposed sanctions on four individuals, including Andrii Derkach, a Ukrainian lawyer with ties to Trump, accusing them of being active Russian agents. In particular, the U.S. accused Derkach of leaking doctored audiotapes aimed at discrediting Biden.

“The United States will continue to use all the tools at its disposal to counter these Russian disinformation campaigns,” said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. Still, social media posts about those recordings have drawn millions of views among mostly Trump supporters after the president and his allies promoted them, The Associated Press reported Saturday.
