It's a factual statement with which you try to spin my factual statement.

No, we won't. Medicare still requires supplemental insurance and copays so even if it did pass it still wouldn't be universal healthcare.

He's gone too early though, should have waited to announce his campaign till a bit later.

Donald Trump is probably laughing at this move though because let's face it he should be. Bernie is just really too old... They need to put up a younger candidate to contrast with Trump being above 70.

I like Bernie's never say die attitude, but he's got no chance of winning the Election. Plus two terms is just out of the question for him(at his age.... NO).

At least he's got brand recognition though. More than you can say for any other candidate so far. Just can't see anyone winning here.

I don't think he would beat Trump. However, I think he would do better than the establishment expects and that would scare the living shit out of them. I'm fine with that kind of thing now.

noemon wrote:Sanders did not oppose Hillary at the national level but at rigged party elections and Hillary beat Trump in the popular vote, so this is like completely wrong.

The popular vote does not matter in presidential elections. Why people continue to harbor that delusion is anyone's guess. Unless the people who live in blue states move en masse to red states--and this is beginning to happen--the majoritarian argument fails every time.

skinster wrote:I'm no fan of Sanders but cool for Americans, maybe they'll finally get health-care like we have in the civilized world.

Be careful what you wish for. As soon as the US allows collective purchasing for medical supplies and drugs, prices for the rest of the world will be going up because you won't have Americans subsidizing that for you anymore.

colliric wrote:Bernie is just really too old... They need to put up a younger candidate to contrast with Trump being above 70.

Yeah, when Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders are your strongest candidates, you should be doing a little reflection. Beto O'Rourke fell for Trump's wall trap and called for tearing down existing fencing--essentially open borders. So he's toast.

Sivad wrote:Sanders would destroy Trump in a general election, no doubt about it.

Where do you think Sanders would win where Hillary lost? Remember, popular vote does not matter. The current Democratic party isn't going to get excited about the old white guy. He would have to win a state like Ohio to pull Trump down. I don't see that happening.

Sanders would not only bring in a lot of people who don't vote but he could also likely pull a fair amount of Trump voters depending on his messaging. As for "Democratic party isn't going to get excited about the old white guy" , that's just nonsense, his primary run was a national sensation that was packing stadiums coast to coast.

I agree. Bernie's campaign has announced that he received an addition $6 million in donations in the first 24 hours after he announced his run for president.

'Unprecedented': Bernie Sanders Campaign Says It Raised $6 Million From 225,000 Donors in First 24 Hours
According to a statement by the campaign, exactly 223,047 individuals contributed $5,925,771—putting the total raised over the $6 million mark with an average donation of just under $27. Since putting it online early Tuesday morning, the campaign said the senator's launch video has been viewed more than 8.3 million times across social media platforms, including 5.3 million views on Twitter alone.

The first-day results, the campaign said, show that his candidacy has "a level of grassroots support of unprecedented size and excitement, signalling the strength of the movement set on winning the Democratic nomination, defeating Donald Trump and creating a government that works for all Americans."

I will concede he had much more popular support on the ground than Hillary did. I don't think his rallies were as big as Trump's. I remain a bit skeptical. From my perspective, Trump is vulnerable if the economy tanks in 2020. All the rest of the horseshit the establishment is throwing at him is proving to be meaningless.

The person who should be worried about that right now is Biden--and of course, the establishment at large. If Sanders is the nominee, the establishment will have been shown to have completely lost the faith of the American people. We live in exciting times...

He is seasoned and he doesn't get flustered. He stays on point and he has done this all once before. Everyone will want to go and see Bernie speak again and he will attract record crowds.

In the last Presidential election African American and Hispanic voters hadn't heard about Bernie. Bernie is for police accountability and hiring only the best and finest. Bernie being dragged out for protesting for Civil Rights by racist police was still unknown to Black voters in the last election. Bernie's immigration policies of giving Dreamers citizenship and stopping deportations was unknown by Latino voters. This time we have a lot of time and resources to educate everyone to what Bernie will do for them and all Americans.

Children have student debts and the cost of college has become prohibitive. Children will someday have families and they need affordable health care for themselves and their children. Children and grandchildren will need living wages, new infrastructure meaning parks, schools and public transportation. Children and grandchildren will need a clean environment to stay healthy in. Those candidates who take corporate money cannot advocate for these things.

Those who take corporate money will appoint Monsanto executives to head the Agriculture Dept., they will appoint Goldman Sachs executives to the Justice Dept, they will appoint Dow Chemical to head the EPA, they will appoint EXXON to run the State Dept, they will appoint corporate lawyers to the Supreme Court, etc. The corporate money they take for their campaign is to sell off their cabinet positions, commission chairmanships and the head position of Federal Agencies. Corporate money is a quid pro quo. Corporate campaign contributions are BRIBES!!!

Those who support corporate sponsored candidates are voting for money power against the general welfare. In the last Presidential election the mainstream media refused to cover Bernie and chose to cover Trump. The commercial media is sponsored by corporate wealth. This is why we must rally around Bernie and support him from the get go. His momentum will pick up where it left off. We have to win for Bernie using social media!!! It is time we gather up our creative energy and put our heads together and brainstorm for Bernie!!.

That is because they like hearing about all the free stuff he will give them by raising taxes.

Just remember, Socialists don't raise taxes, not real ones anyway. They de-privatize businesses and they are run collectively.

So Sanders is a Liberal, not a Socialist. Just want to see you get your terms right when trying to convince people of something.

They have to raise taxes in the transition from capitalism to full socialism.

Sanders is clearly a liberal that believes in many socialist policies that lead to the transition to full socialism. He has even described his ideas as democratic socialism.

The share of wealth owned by the top 0.1% is almost the same as the bottom 90%. Bernard is THE MAN  . (Sorry but I do not have time right now to ferret out crack pot Youtubes that prove beyond all doubt the pure truth of my thoughts).

I am not certain, however, that Bernie will protect me from caravans of Mexican rapists, baby killers, crazed drug zombies and jay walkers ……………………

Why complain though? Israel maybe wins either way.

If he wins, you've got a Jew buddie in the Whitehouse, Zionist or anti-zionist, that's got to be worth something to you.

The image of Chabad Rabbis surrounding a Jew President in the oval Office would be interesting to see. And the Photo op of Netanyahu shaking his hand is going to be interesting to see how that goes down with the American public.

I hope he does not drop dead during the campaign. But even if he does get elected, I would be surprised if he ever comes to Jerusalem to support Israel in any way, even though he is reported to be a Jew.

On February 19, 2019, Sanders announced on Vermont Public Radio that he would seek the Democratic Party's nomination for President of the United States in the 2020 election.

A self-described democratic socialist and progressive, Sanders is pro-labor rights and emphasizes reversing economic inequality. He advocates for universal and single-payer healthcare, paid parental leave, as well as tuition-free tertiary education. On foreign policy, Sanders broadly supports reducing military spending, pursuing more diplomacy and international cooperation, and putting greater emphasis on labor rights and environmental concerns when negotiating international trade agreements.

While at the University of Chicago, Sanders joined the Young People's Socialist League (the youth affiliate of the Socialist Party of America). Sanders applied for conscientious objector status during the Vietnam War; his application was eventually turned down, by which point he was too old to be drafted.

In February 2018, Special Counsel Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election revealed that Russians communicated false information during the primary campaigns to benefit Sanders and Stein and to harm Clinton. Sanders rejected the Mueller investigation's conclusion, saying that he had seen no evidence that Russians helped his campaign.

The popular vote does matter. Its a far better predictor for US president than the British parliamentary vote share. When was the last time the winner lost the popular vote by more than 2%?

Yeah, but blackjack21 simply meant that electoral votes decide presidential elections in the USA.

I like Bernie Sanders and want to vote for him but I'm concerned about his age.

If elected in 2020, he will be 79. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean he's not apt for presidency, but it is a concern of mine.

Should I be concerned about his old age? Can anyone give me some more insight about this issue; I need to know whether I should take it into consideration.
