As it is known, the economic sanctions of the United States and Europe could not prevent Russia from carrying out its activities in any area, because in 2016 Russia, despite the sanctions, was able to rise to 45th place from the previous 44th due to the state of finances and tax policy and the labor market. Sanctions do not interfere with Russia and today engage in the country's energy sector, which cannot but make its American partners not nervous.
At the end of March 2019, it became known that the administration of US President D. Trump is preparing a series of measures to improve the position of American companies in the competition for the construction of nuclear power plants of the new generation around the world - a struggle in which they themselves are losing today, trying to dissuade foreigners partners from cooperation with Moscow and Beijing, which in turn are direct competitors of the United States. According to experts, these measures will be a response to the growing primacy of Russia and China in this industry and will help prevent their influence in the international arena by strengthening ties with other states in the field of nuclear energy. At the same time, even taking into account the diplomatic weight of the State Department, it will not be easy to get contracts in the field of energy, as the Americans have difficulties even with building reactors at home.
It should be recalled that a few decades ago, the United States was a leader in the export of atomic energy, but today they had to face stiff competition in this industry, including from allies, such as France or South Korea. However, the Trump administration and experts in the field of nuclear nonproliferation are most concerned about the growing dominance in the Beijing and Moscow markets. For example, the Russian company Rosatom, a long-established exporter, supplies reactors for nuclear power plants in Eastern Europe, Bangladesh and Turkey.
The United States, due to the lack of competitiveness of its own energy companies, has long begun to pursue a policy of sanctions pressure on the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. So, in 2018, the government of D. Trump imposed sanctions against Russia and Iran in order to maintain its own oil and gas industry. That is, if Iran blocks the Strait of Hormuz, this will have major consequences for the international oil markets, because about a third of the world’s oil is transported through this strait. The same applies to the sabotage of the gas pipeline project of the Russian energy giant Gazprom, Nord Stream-2, which should provide gas supply to Europe from Russia.
Moreover, in early March 2019, the US Senate submitted a bill on new anti-Russian sanctions with the aim of the collapse of Russian oil production. It was proposed to prohibit any company or individual to finance, provide services and technologies for new oil production or modernization projects already operating in Russia. Furthermore, any energy projects around the world involving Russian state and parastatal companies will fall under the restrictions. However, Russia, in turn, is absolutely not worried about this, and the Russian Gazprom even answered that it will always be competitive compared to the American LNG, and for example, the Nord Stream-2 project is not a new project at all, therefore the Russian the government does not care about the statements of sanctions by the Senate. According to analysts, America is now risking its actions to turn the whole world back to itself and earn instead of partners direct enemies.
According to experts, Russia remains and will remain the largest exporter of oil and gas. For example, according to the forecast of the British BP, in 20 years Russia will meet five percent of the global demand for primary energy resources and produce up to 14% of oil and gas.
