The number one issue facing the democrats is a decade or two of masterful gerrymandering. If the democrats are to win in the Electoral College they have to go after Joe Tentpeg. They have to peel off voters who are conservative in key districts. Will Warren/Buttigeig do this? I am doubtful.

Democrats do have to get more conservative voters, but most states are winner-take-all. I think Maine and maybe Nebraska do things on a district basis. We recently saw that in the Louisiana governor's race--a pro-life Democrat won!

I did not answer you when you called me on this earlier.

Gerrymandering does matter in presidential elections for two reasons.

There are two, albeit small states that apportion some of their electoral votes by congressional district.

More importantly though, house races drive spending. Reliable districts free up money to be used elsewhere. This is no little deal. Gerrymandering virtually guarantees some states so effectively that presidential campaign money need not be spent there in any significant amount.
