This video discusses the ideas of investing in "human capital." I think these are good ideas. Another thing that is important as part of investing in "human capital" are programs that enable American workers to engage in what I would call "life long learning." The U.S. economy needs to have a system that supports and helps pay for a program of "life long learning" for American workers so our economy can remain competitive and we have highly skilled employees who can make a middle class salary so they can enjoy a middle class lifestyle.
The most important investment the United States can make is in it's people. Investing in the concept of "life long learning" helps makes it so that there are plenty of applicants and people ready to fill those unfilled skilled jobs that companies look to hire for. It also makes it to where our businesses don't have to go looking overseas for highly skilled workers. You don't have to a college degree to earn a good middle class salary.
You can get a high skilled certification for example that is vocational that pays well. As part of life long learning, there needs to be a program to take unskilled American workers and train them in a highly skilled vocation so they can make more money and we can fill the skills gap here in the United States. This in turn will help our economy and make it much more competitive in the global marketplace. Thoughts anybody?
