@Fasces Alcohole is legal, but this substance is commonly the number 1. causing deaths... a clean society is not possible for example Saudi-Arabia where alcohole is banned has the highest consumption of prescription drugs like Valiumand other Benzodiazepines (which hit similar to Opioids).

I know many people who take drugs as doping for work to be more focused.

Steve Jobs took LSD, there are rumors the Google founders take magic mushrooms... Thomas Edison took cocaine Sigmund Freud too...

Here's a solution:
Forced treatment for all drug users who clearly have a problem. They'll get put in a facility, like a minimum security prison, but not uncomfortable. This will take them off of the drugs for several weeks. Treatment will be provided to them.

If they don't want to do the treatment, then society could assign a special place for them, where they would be able to continue living their drug-addicted lifestyle but far away from the rest of society. Sort of like a place of exile in old times.

Some sort of limit could be placed on the maximum amount of time they would be allowed in the treatment centers. It would be a 27 day stretch of time. They could stay up to 50 days, if they wished. But they would not be able to stay more than 50 days within a 2 year period of time, and not more than 3 times within a 5 year period of time. They would get two chances at treatment and rehabilitation, and if they failed, they would be assigned to a time period of exile.

The place where all the drug users would be required to live would probably have diminished economic prospects and would end up being a very high crime area, due to all the people being drug users. The concentration camps would be segregated by gender. Although there would be one camp where persons of both genders would be allowed to go to so long as they have been sterilized. This would ensure that children would not be born into the drug camps.

Do you really want to use that word? It's not great from a PR perspective. Although we might have broadened PoFo's clientele recently. ;)

Everything else is also horseshit btw and doesn't remotely touch on root causes.

That is still not any real argument against my recommendation.

Is it possible you are completely dismissing my recommendation out of hand simply because it sounds so non-conventional and objectionable?

I'll also point out to you that my recommendation is still far more lenient, understanding, and merciful, than the current procedure in most parts of the U.S., and most jurisdictions of the world.

This might not work.

It would be more intelligent to go with ideas that have already been shown to work .

Which ideas would those be?

Which ideas, precisely, do you claim have already been "shown to work"?

I simply suggested drug treatment, and if that does not work, to simply isolate the problem away from the rest of society.
That does not seem too extreme or unreasonable to me.

You two are not that far apart.

Back in early part of the thread someone blamed drug companies. While they are part of the problem, the beginning was the Drug War.

When pot became hard to smuggle, they turned to hard drugs. They were easier to smuggle, and more profitable. During the 80s, cocaine became so cheap that dealers literally gave the stuff away trying to drum up more business. They had more coke than they could sell.

Most people have no idea what a nightmare the Drug War has been. It's worse than you can imagine.
