PAP Cabinet created GRC system to AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY to the citizens of Singapore?
And we once thought that GRC was created to improve minority representation, this is furthest from the truth, since before GRC was implemented in 1988, NCMP was implemented in 1984 for the express purpose of 'ensuring opposition representation', so why wasn't NCMP system also implemented for minority racial representation?
Must be an evil maths genius inside PAP who created all this excesses , so that the PM and his cabinet could achieve almost totalitarian rule over Singapore.
The reason why NCMP system wasn't used as well for minority racial representation is because PAP (as is any incumbent) is absolutely allergic to by-elections and the GRC system was perfect to do away with any by-elections since according to GRC laws, there is no by-election even if the required minority MP dies, vacates seat for any reason (or has his PAP party membership revoked) .
This in effect gives the Prime Minister and his cabinet absolute powers since they are able to revoke a PAP GRC MP party membership and cause him to vacate his MP seat in a GRC, yet have the need to conduct a by-election to account for their biased/ jaundiced decisions, since their absurd and jaundiced GRC laws state that just one MP is necessary to helm an entire GRC (no matter what size) without need to conduct a by-election. This effectively puts paid to any hopes of a GRC MP voting with his own personal conscience (without recourse to by-election to be returned to Parliament as independent MP etc) .
And since 79 of 93 MP seats are GRC seats, it can be said that almost 85% of MP will vote along party lines (as opposed to personal moral conscience) since party rules very effectively preclude MP from voting with their conscience or being able to reseek an electorate mandate vz by-election method. GRC has wiped out nearly 85% of transparency and accountability from the Singapore parliamentary system. It is thus mostly just a puppet show in Parliament.
Since the NCMP system would have been a much more transparent and effective mode of minority racial representation in parliament and a good training ground for minority MP to cut their teeth, in preparation to be the winning MP eventually, having practised with the daily bread and butter issues debated in parliament, the GRC system of elections is a mischievous and superfluous addition by the PAP, solely calculated for the purpose of partisan political benifit.
In fact, the deficient minority racial representation as prescribed by current oversized GRC proportions also shows how political greed of the PAP has gone overboard in the years since inception.
By law, each GRC needs only one notional minority MP to contest general elections. In GE2020, there will now be 17 GRC and 14 SMC making a total of 93 MP seats in parliament (which are not NCMP or NMP seats) . https://www.straitstimes.com/multimedia ... html?shell
The result of which would be 17/93= 18.28% minority representation, especially if the myth or rumour that the PAP invented during introduction of GRC system, that 'Singaporeans in general will not vote in a minority candidate' is a self fulfilling prophesy.
However, according to Singapore demographics (2014) at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demogra ... _Singapore Minority population stands at 23.8%, meaning that the GRC system of elections actually provides for a shortfall of 23.3% minority representation (18.3%/23.8%), or that minorities in Singapore are approximately 25% under represented (or short changed by the PAP).
But the situation is actually even worse than first imagined.
It can thus be seen in this paper that the GRC system of election is a terrible corruption and malicious offshoot of the traditional single seat Westminster Parliamentary System of Government, holding democracy in Singapore ransom.
The GRC system has gone too far and even betrayed the original promised objective of ensuring minority racial representation by shortchanging minority races not just on proportion, but also in right of expression (since GRC system is what majority minority MP would fall under) precludes the by-election option almost 100%. Minority race and their MP have thus been shortchanged on two counts.
The GRC system of elections has also turned almost 85% of MP in Parliament into mere robots, digits or zombies since their hands are tied with their MP seat privilege excessively held hostage to political party allegiance and little by way of personal conscience.
The electorate is also unschooled in political affairs since by-elections can be said to have been erridicated by 85% since PAP implemented the GRC system of elections in Singapore parliament.
Singaporeans should demand a roll back of the wholly undemocratic and redundant GRC system of elections and request that a majority of Parliamentary seats be subsumed under an SMC system of elections with NCMP system to ensure an adequately represented minority race and religion presence in Parliament.
PS: to reduce size of currently bloated parliament, GRC system of elections should be banned, there will be no need for NCMP seats for opposition since all MP seats are well contested, NMP is a joke because they are mostly just PAP puppets or back door wannabe MP, many just status symbols (hey, I was here before!) .
