You know, I'm also wondering, as Britain becomes more and more diverse, whether there are going to be White British men marrying women who have been genitally mutilated.

I've noticed more and more White British men are getting into relationships these days with women who came from muslim backgrounds.

It might not be so good for their sex lives.

Genital mutilation is not a Muslim tradition, Christians in Ethiopia and Eritrea have this too.

Despite the absence of scriptural support, women and girls within Christian communities, including in Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania, do undergo FGM. It has been found among Coptic Christians in Egypt, Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia, and Protestants and Catholics in Sudan and Kenya. A 2013 UNICEF report identified 17 African countries in which at least 10 percent of Christian women and girls aged 15–49 had undergone it. In Niger, for example, 55 percent of Christian women and girls had experienced it, against two percent of Muslim women and girls.

That's kind of a desperate argument. It's extremely rare among Christians, although not completely unheard of in some specific isolated cases.

You could probably fit all the women and girls in the entire world who have been genitally mutilated by their Christian parents into the space of your house.

Anyway, I'm sure 99.9% of Christians would very much disapprove of it. What percentage of muslims in the world do you think would disapprove of it?

Please... ever heard of circumcision?
Some people only see barbarity when it is performed by "outsiders". Those that practiced foot binding thought it made the women's feet look more attractive... they were just as barbaric as those that practice genital mutilation, whether female genital mutilation, or male genital mutilation such as circumcision.

What exactly are you trying to say? Many people in the US perform male circumcision, therefore female circumcision "isn't that bad" ?

I happen to believe both are wrong. However... completely removing a woman's entire clitoris is another level of wrong.

Why do those of you on the Left seem to be trying to do everything possible to overlook this going on?

It is actually since 2009 and CNN is a wrong source to turn to when it comes to London. Nearly 4,000 Muslim women were treated for FGM in hospitals across the capital since 2009, while some of them were born in the UK. Out of 795 patients, only 8 of those treated at St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust were born in the UK. These women were suffering from complications associated with FGM, which was performed outside the country. FGM is strictly prohibited in Britain. Most of these women were probably Muslim students or travellers visiting London, who were treated in London hospitals.

Almost 4,000 women and girls treated for effects of female genital mutilation in London hospitals since 2009

Nearly 4,000 women and girls, some of them born in the UK, were treated for FGM in hospitals across the capital since 2009, according to figures released under the Freedom of Information Act.

Campaigners said the London figures, obtained by BBC News, suggested there were thousands of women across Britain suffering the after-effects of FGM while many girls also live under threat of mutilation.

Despite being classed as torture by the United Nations and a crime in Britain since 1985, there have been no prosecutions against those responsible for the brutal practice which is generally inflicted when victims are babies or young girls.

Nearly half of the 3,939 women treated at the 31 hospitals which responded to the FOI request attended two south London NHS trusts - Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, which treated 1,146 and 795 women respectively.

Eight of those treated at St George’s were born in the UK. FGM is most common among some African, Asian and Middle Eastern communities.

Ealing Hospital NHS Trust in west London treated 633 patients and the Whittington Health NHS Trust in north London cared for 493 patients.

The majority of women who attend hospital will have undergone the procedure a number of years earlier and have become known to medics during antenatal care or because of complications, such as recurrent urinary infections, associated with FGM.

Campaigners said the figures highlighted the need for a comprehensive system to report FGM. It is estimated that at least 66,000 girls and women in the UK are victims of FGM.

Rukayah Sarumi, advocacy and campaigns manager for the charity FORWARD, said: “Unfortunately these figures are not surprising and there are some indications that they may be higher because of cases going unrecognised or unrecorded. They underline the reason why we need a strategic and cohesive response to FGM. We need a national action plan, part of which must ensure that medical staff are fully trained to recognise the mutilation.”

From next month all NHS hospitals will have a system in place to record FGM and by September all major hospitals will be required to report their data to the Department of Health on a monthly basis. New cases of FGM on British girls are thought to be carried out either in the UK by backstreet practitioners or by taking the child out of the country.

London mayor Boris Johnson said he was backing an initiative to improve the way agencies respond to FGM cases. Experts warned last year there were “gaps” in how the health and social care systems offered support to victims.

Quite the opposite. Both scenarios cringe, alarming, shameful, criminal, you name it. But here is the thing... with what face, do you go upstairs to your neighbor's apartment to complain that the music is too loud when your husband is running a jackhammer on your kitchen and your kids have the TV maxed out?
I am not saying that it is right, believe me, it is absolutely not. The selective outrage... lets outrage mostly about what other people do... that is also pathetic and frankly, serves the purpose of perpetuating the US V THEM mentality that further delays actual progress.

completely removing a woman's entire clitoris is another level of wrong.

No. It is the same level of wrong. You are just looking at it from your skewed perspective. But it is quite the same level of wrong.

Sandzak wrote:Circumisation reduces the HIV transmission, this counts also for other diseases.

And cutting baby's testicles will make it so they never develop testicular cancer in the future. Want to do that?

This is a post hoc rationalization. Do you know what reduces HIV transmission? Fucking condoms.

Sandzak wrote:I read in a Man Magazine: "Circumisation is better for sex, but not masturbation."

Most male pornstars were circumised

Again. Post hoc rationalization. You are trying to explain an atrocity with some purposed benefit. If I cut your arm, you will not develop skin cancer in your arm.... I guess that's a benefit right?
Mutilation is mutilation, genital mutilation is genital mutilation. Whether you can find some sort of post-hoc "benefit" is completely irrelevant.
The people that did this for thousands of years didn't even know HIV existed.
You are simply showcasing your bias.

Yes, but many girls who are living in Britain are taken by their families for a little "vacation" (back in Pakistan or wherever the family originally came from) where the horrific procedure is done before they come right back.
These girls have spent most of their lives living in Britain, and for all intents and purposes are practically British girls. Some of them can't speak any other language than English.

Do we just ignore it and say it doesn't really matter that much because they're "muslim", or they're not really "real" British girls?

Could we imagine if white girls were being taken abroad and having this done to them?
No, of course it would be a different situation then. [sarcasm]

Muslim ER doctor charged with female genital mutilation of nine girls aged just seven 'was part of secret network which traveled across US to perform agonizing procedure,' Detroit court hears

Dr. Jumana Nagarwala appeared in court Thursday charged with lying about performing genital mutilation on nine girls, all seven years old
Prosecutors accused her of belonging to a group of physicians that traveled across the country performing the brutal surgeries
Nagarwala was cleared of mutilation charges in November 2018, after a federal judge ruled that a law banning the practice was unconstitutional
Prosecutors put forth a series of new charges in March, alleging that she lied to the FBI and intimidated others to do the same
She is fighting to dismiss the case and called the new indictments 'retaliation'

Acting as if male circumcision is on the exact same level as female mutilation is just unbelievable.

Feel free to oppose male circumcision all day long, but in the end it doesnt stop men from enjoying sex.

@Puffer Fish It's more of a cultural thing than religious, but I know that you are simply another Islamophobe.

FGM is About Culture not Religion: Executive Director Interview
It is difficult to find a common thread, but I would like to suggest that it is more cultural than anything else. I do not think it is religion. What UNFPA has done with our partner, UNICEF, is to engage communities across those regions that you mentioned and persuade them that FGM/C has no medical benefits at all and that, for a fact, it causes damage to women and girls physically, psychologically, and emotionally.

Female Genital Mutilation Is Not a Uniquely Muslim Problem
Basically, FGM is a practice limited to certain parts of Africa—and although it’s more common among Muslims than other religions, Christians are pretty close in most countries. As for Britain, its FGM problem is more due to where their African immigrants come from than it is to Islam per se.

Female genital mutilation is a barbaric practice, and Muslims in many countries are far too tolerant of it. Anyone who fights it—as do many feminist NGOs as well as Islamic clergy and scholars—is literally doing God’s work. But it’s uncommon in the heartland of Islam, and in Africa it’s practiced by plenty of Christians too. The only way to represent it as a uniquely Islamic problem is to imply it with a wink and a nudge but without actually producing any evidence.
