The nearly completed Nord Stream 2 is again in focus. It has become known that the U.S. Senate on January 13 failed to pass a bill to slap sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline sponsored by Republican Senator Ted Cruz. The tally was 55 in favor and 44 against the bill that needed 60 votes to pass. Those who voted against his bill said it risked breaking unity in Washington and in Europe. U.S. senators said also Cruz sanctions on Nord Stream 2 could harm relations with Germany which is very important for the U.S. foreign policy and economy.

Top Ukrainian officials, as well as Lithuanian government supported Cruz’s bill, arguing the United States should do everything in its power to halt the pipeline project.

I don't get it. What does Lithuania have to do with Nord Stream 2... The reason the sanctions are proposed and the Nord Stream 2 is not operational is because Russia is doing agressive shit in the world and not behaving like a normal state but instead is crazy right now. I mean, I understand that Putin wants to hold to power along with his regime and cronies but this is a medium term problem. Long term, Putins regime is dead in the water due to inability for reform and change so it will be replaced by something else in this decade or two. If that regime is a real democratic liberal democracy then we will be your best friends. May be even we will allow you to join the European Union and be the best proponents for it because peace and cooperation ultimately trumps any other disputes that we in the Baltic states might have with Russia.

Yes indeed why can't Russia behave like a normal state? The US, Britain, France, China, Pakistan, Saudi and Iran don't feel this constant need to interfere in other countries business, why does Russia?

Yeah Rich this is not a generalisation at all not to mention that this is mostly illegal in many cases unless there is a United Nations resolution. One country violating shit doesn't allow other countries to do so hence most people in the whole world are against these behaviours. If you exclude Afghanistan and Iraq after 9/11 then your whataboutism mostly falls apart but there are no what ifs (buts?) for history so you will always have this whataboutist argument. It is a whole different matter though for people to consider it valid or moral in a sense because it is not remotely close to what Russia does to Ukraine and wants to do to Ukraine for example. Not to mention propping up dictators and saving them with their own forces from their own people to a large degree in Kazakhstan and Belorussia.

how can claim others dont interfere when they, most of the numbered in different countries earlier or now, the problem with this hype is western propaganda, ask yourself why Ukraine wasnt such big issue in the past few years but now, and there is obvious reason why [1][1] Lithua probably is bragging so would squeeze more nato charity from exercises, tho their fear is objective coz if the Russian Bear is woken up the country will be among the first to be rebooted ...
