Breaking news a little less than one hour ago on a Mexican news feed I have read this:

Evo Morales has been targeted by hooded assassins and they fired 14 bullets at his vehicle when he was on his way to a talk show in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

His driver was hurt. He was not hurt.

Apparently there is an opponent who is running for office for August of 2025 and wants to have that position he is running for.

I wonder who is behind the assassination attempt eh?

Aren't the Socialists having an inner civil war on Bolivia for more than a year now? Starting with the previous coup attempt if I remember correctly?

It is interesting. Arce was Morales main economist for years under his government. Now there is a split. Between Morales and Arce.

Inflation is bound to happen and dollars are in scarce supply. Which means economically Bolivia is in trouble.

This BBC article is interesting.

I found it a mistake for Morales to try for a fourth term. He should have gotten someone else to take over. But he did not. A big mistake in my opinion.

But? It is obvious that someone tried to kill him. Morales is highly popular in Bolivia.

The Bible Thumping woman who was the conservative president was not president for long. Jeanine Añez did not make it.

Bolivian politics is drama incarnate.

Evo Morales is saying there will be an uprising in the Chapare Province if something happens to him.

https://www.emol.com/noticias/Internaci ... igena.html

This isn't limited to just killing him, it includes having him arrested over the accusations of human trafficking and rape of a minor, that allegedly led to pregnancy, that hang against him.

https://elpais.com/america/2024-10-04/e ... -anos.html

Now, Luis Arce himself is also being accused of sexual harassment and rape.

https://elpais.com/america/2024-10-08/l ... rales.html

These power-hungry leftists are raising such a ruckus

Interestingly, these are not the only accusations of sexual violence against women, including rape, hanging over Hispanic leftists but this may be a matter for another thread.

Right wing rape squads have a bad reputation in Chile of the past. Raping is a bad accusation.

That is why it is investigated all the time.

Now all the rage is the alleged rape of one of his subordinates by our former Undersecretary of Interior (this is like the Undersecretary of the DHS in the US), including an attempt to obstruct justice by the former Undersecretary by tampering with the evidence and trying to reach out to the alleged victim, which Boric's administration seems to have tried to cover up.

You should really follow Chilean news, it's like watching a good political series at this point.

@wat0n they will not let me read the article from the Financial Times. They want me to subscribe and pay. I will not do that.

But? The rape accusations are often used regardless of political points of view. It is a smear tactic.

Trump was convicted of sexual assault against that women who's name escapes me.

AMLO was accused of having extramarital affair that resulted in a love child with a much younger woman. It is common with males in power in my honest opinion.

The rape stuff is troubling with very young women under the age of 21 years old.

I wonder about these sex scandals? It seems to be acceptable for who? Trump types but not Leftist men. Men's sexual conduct does not follow political leanings. It is about how they deal with the opposite sex.

I am not a fan of the Obamas. But I do think Michelle and Barack had a very clean marriage in that sense. So did the Carters. The Bushes? No.

Nixon was clean....Reagan too. The ones that had a lot of sex misconduct swept under the rug....is Trump. Lol. Yet he is popular.

Two things:

1) Not believing women goes against Boric's self-professed feminist administration, and the overall postmodern leftist discourse. So he has to believe them whether he likes it or not, and he eventually said he believes the accuser.

2) Boric admitted he knew Monsalve had tampered with evidence (by requesting the Chilean FBI to let him watch his hotel's CCTV footage). So the administration does accept the impending obstruction charge, and the President admits he knew (and did not report it, it is a felony for any public official in Chile to fail to report if he/she witnessed a crime or one was confessed to him/her).
