The US refused to let Syrian transport convoys sent for refugees to the Rukban camp. This was reported to journalists by the head of the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in the Republic, Sergey Solomatin, reports on Saturday, March 2, TASS.

"The American side refused the joint appeal of the interdepartmental coordination headquarters of Russia and Syria on the organization of the return and accommodation of refugees," he said. According to Solomatin, the Syrian authorities successfully prepared everything for the export of people from Rukban to the places of pre-war residence, but the US military did not allow transport to the territory of the zone of Al-Tanf.

Earlier, Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Americans and under their supervision militants prevent the export of refugees from Rukban. At the end of December 2018, it was reported that Syrian militants are likely to burn the bodies of the victims of the famine of refugees in the Rukban camp. Prior to that, it became known that the camp is thriving theft, prostitution and human trafficking. Due to unsanitary conditions and lack of medical care in October-November 2018 in Rukban killed more than 100 people. Neonatal mortality is 20 per cent, and medicines in the camp are sold at inflated prices.

Rukban camp is located 20 kilometers from the American base of Al-tanf, near the crossing of the borders of Syria, Iraq and Jordan. It is home to more than 50 thousand refugees.
