Liberal vs Conservative thought on the War on Terrorism
An analogy, if you will.....

QUESTION:
You are walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children.
Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a knife comes out of the bushes and is running at you screaming "death to you and your family".
In your pocket is a semi-auto .40 claiber handgun...... and you are an expert shot.
You heve mere seconds before the man reaches you and your family.
What do you do...... what - do - you - do?

LIBERAL ANSWER:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him either directly or in-directly that would inspire him to attack me? Have I been boastful and arrogant in my lifestyle, causing due hate and envy from this man?
Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club, thus blocking the knife, knocking it out of his hand, causing minimal risk to his life? What does the law say about this situation? Do I realy have the right to hurt this man pre-emptively, just for menacing my family.... shouldn't he have to stab me first or my kids or wife? Does my gun have a safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway and what kind of message does this send to my kids or society? Maybe he'd be happy with just killing me and would leave my family alone? Does he in-fact want to kill me at all, perhaps he only wants to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Could I perhaps hold him at bay with the gun and have my kids inspect him for more dangerous weapons than a knife, while my wife questions him as to his true motives... and how long can I hold my arm outstreached with my gun in hand? After all, it's not really a fair fight.... a knife against a gun?
This is all so confusing I need more time to debate this with my family and perhaps some close friends so we can achieve some consensus on these pressing issues.

CONSERVATIVE ANSWER:

BANG !

American Answer:

First, ignore the embarrasing fact that you sold the man his knife and taught him how to use it. If anyone brings up this fact, call them anti-american. Then, find what neighbourhood the man is from. Unfourtunatly, this neighbourhood happens to be where some old business budies live. Instead, bomb a neighbourhood that is convienently close-by. Bomb and bomb and bomb this neighbourhood untill barely a house is standing. Then promise to rebuild it, and don't.

"Troll" and "liar" work too.
Or could it be that none of you know how to take a joke? I see plenty of offfensive lefty crap posted here and I don't whine about it at all. It's humor. You all need to learn to laugh at yourselves more. Or just get off the comp and go enjoy life a bit.

If TRP bothers you so much that is.

pot = black kettle?

Oh and Steven, if that was supposed to be profound insight into American thinking, it first off doesn't make sense, and secondly isn't even close to being accurate.

pot = black kettle?

I've never understood this saying and I hear it too much for that to be something I'm comfortable with (every time I visit my parents my dad says atleast 3 times), what the hell does it mean?

That could have been the point, you see getting the label in reverse, but I don't know. And it is probaly relating to the current US-Israeli cooperation in Iraq to increase the US army's urban war far Palestine style.

It would have been funnier if the analogy was anywhere near accurate.

"The pot calling the kettle black"

- This is an anology which outlines hipocracy. In reality, as part of a matching kitchen set, both the pot and the kettle are black. But in an argument, the pot attempts to insult the kettle by calling it black, despite the fact that they both are.

Do I realy have the right to hurt this man pre-emptively, just for menacing my family....

Just to nit pick ... that wouldnt be acting pre-emptively ... that would be reacting to an attack ...

Acting pre-emptively would be seeing a man who could potentially have a knife on him, deciding he was going to use that knife against you and deciding to shoot him because he might have a knife.

Now if we apply this concept to Iraq ...

You are walking down the street with your family, you turn the corner and see a man you once worked with. For a while you were good freinds with the man and even once gave him a knife as a birthday present but recently you and he were not on good terms. Now you know the police have been to his house a few times and taken away most if not all of his knives but your just not sure. He doesnt look at you or speak to you but you decide that the man must have a knife ... I mean you gave him one a long time ago right? So you decide you must protect your family, even though the guy is standing there reading the newspaper ... so you decide to walk up to him and shoot him in the face while saying 'THIS MAN HAS A KNIFE AND IS A THREAT TO ME AND THE WHOLE WORLD!!!' ...

You then walk away and wonder why everyone else on the street runs away from you ... hmm ... they must be anti-Americans ...

Don't worry Boondock, I am an 'anti-american commie' - and so obviously well past that.
