True. They can't admit it.
Here is how Covid works.
The CDC dropped the mask requirement for some vaccinated people in outdoor settings. My wife and I have been vaccinated. So we invited our "adopted" kids (former neighbors) to our house to eat pizza outdoors. They have two little boys 2-4. (Feral it seems.) Of course they did not tell us that the little boys had bad colds and you can't tell right away because they run and scream all of the time anyway. Of course they instantly ran into the house because our house is fascinating to them. (We collect unusual art pieces including masks.) So I had to follow them around to make sure they did not get into anything in our decidedly not kid-proofed house. Now I have an absolutely world class, cold. And that is how it works. One moment of indiscretion.
Early in the pandemic I got into my car leaving the clinic. I did not think I had seen any Covid positive people that day. One lady scabies and another with a UTI. The doc and I had been discussing what an easy day it had been. Got out of my PPI according to protocol but wore my scrubs home. When I got to the house I was getting undressed in the garage. Reached into my pocket of my scrubs and came out with a used pair of exam gloves. I must have inadvertently stuffed them into my pocket. Something I would never do. But I did. It could have spelled disaster. I got lucky. For two weeks all I could do was play back that day in my memory trying to remember who I used these gloves with and who was ill that day.
So that is the thing. I disagree with the CDC. It is too soon to let our guard down and people will get very sick and some die from their decision. I have to pay the price for not following my own advice. I am lucky. I got a cold. But such a cold it is:
Go hang yourself, you old M.D.!
You shall not sneer at me.
Pick up your hat and stethoscope,
Go wash your mouth with laundry soap;
I contemplate a joy exquisite
I'm not paying you for your visit.
I did not call you to be told
My malady is a common cold.
By pounding brow and swollen lip;
By fever's hot and scaly grip;
By those two red redundant eyes
That weep like woeful April skies;
By racking snuffle, snort, and sniff;
By handkerchief after handkerchief;
This cold you wave away as naught
Is the damnedest cold man ever caught!
Give ear, you scientific fossil!
Here is the genuine Cold Colossal;
The Cold of which researchers dream,
The Perfect Cold, the Cold Supreme.
This honored system humbly holds
The Super-cold to end all colds;
The Cold Crusading for Democracy;
The Führer of the Streptococcracy.
Bacilli swarm within my portals
Such as were ne'er conceived by mortals,
But bred by scientists wise and hoary
In some Olympic laboratory;
Bacteria as large as mice,
With feet of fire and heads of ice
Who never interrupt for slumber
Their stamping elephantine rumba.
A common cold, gadzooks, forsooth!
Ah, yes. And Lincoln was jostled by Booth;
Don Juan was a budding gallant,
And Shakespeare's plays show signs of talent;
The Arctic winter is fairly coolish,
And your diagnosis is fairly foolish.
Oh what a derision history holds
For the man who belittled the Cold of Colds!
