remember that unhinged fear mongers were repeating that baseless claim? Who could forget?

"As a retired manager, one aspect of our current ludicrous actions on Covid that annoys me is that there seems to be no attempt to operate even the most basic principles of project-management. There seems to be no analysis, no plan, no objectives, no identification of options, no targets, no idea of what success looks like, no statement of the ‘endgame’ and no cost benefit analysis.

The original objective of “flatten the curve, protect the NHS and save lives” has clearly now been achieved but we have carried on with a kind of bizarre game of covid ‘ring-a-roses’ as we all panic about test results with no idea what we are trying to achieve?"

@Sivad You do know that JP Sears does almost everything as satire, right? Is he your new "go-to" source?

The Dems believe that keeping as much shut down as possible will hurt the economy and in turn President Trump's re-election chances.

Since we seem to now be in the second wave, social distancing objectives are for the same purpose as during the first wave: “flatten the curve, protect the Medicare system and save lives”.

Pants-of-dog wrote:@Doug64 Do you concede that opening schools like normal will result in about a million more cases in children, and that thisnwould then result in a significant amount of deaths in the families of these children?

No, I don’t concede that opening schools will result in a million more sick children. And please define “significant.” Apparently a majority of parents don’t agree with you, they want the schools open and I strongly doubt they appreciate the efforts of politicians and teachers unions to keep them closed. Like I’ve said, parents can read—number of children below fifteen from the Wuhan virus since the beginning of February, 49. The number of that age range dead of the flu, 107.

One of the big reasons so many parents want to go back to school is that both parents work. Many have to work or go homeless, and even those that aren't in danger of losing their homes would be in danger of losing their jobs/promotions/whatever if they didn't work. It was very clear that in the spring it was impossible to home school your kids and work. As much as teachers and school districts are saying "you aren't home schooling, you don't have to home school", yes, we are fucking home schooling. How the fuck else can our kids finish their assignments if they aren't getting help from the parents? All the school districts and teachers are doing is providing lesson plans. Ultimately the parents have to execute on those plans. At least, that's how it's playing out for us.

Also, as much as teacher's and school districts say "we are not baby sitters". They are absolutely right, they are not baby sitters, and shouldn't be treated as such. However, it's stupid to ignore the reality that in our modern society, school has a secondary function as a safe place for kids to be when the parents are working. So yea, school's primary function is to educate, but a secondary function is to keep kids safe while parents are working.

Why not?

Was my math wrong?

Were my sources incorrect?

Since I am a parent if school age children and you are not, I think I understand better than you what parents want: for schools to open in a way that is safe for students, teachers and other school staff, and the families of students.

@Rancid provides a good explanation why we want schools open.

This can be defined as “wanting schools to open”, but if you leave out the caveat about safety and use this as an excuse to open schools in an unsafe manner, you are basically using the words of parents to force them to do something parents do NOT want.

Like I’ve said, parents can read—number of children below fifteen from the Wuhan virus since the beginning of February, 49. The number of that age range dead of the flu, 107.

You seem to be ignoring cases entirely and focusing solely on deaths, completely ignoring cases and deaths of teachers and other school staff, and ignoring the cases and deaths that will result when kids bring home infections.

Inconvenient truths.

About some fear-porn that cries 'OMG the Children!,' Godstud wrote:Inconvenient truths.

Or annoying propaganda if you're able to see through it.

It's very frustrating to see less wise people fall into the propaganda trap so easily and to see that they possess no capacity to think on their own. "Whatever the newspapermen say."

Even with the knowlege that our media is owned by a handful of billionaires, that Bill Gates and Big Pharma own the WHO, and after all his horrible experiments with vaccine tests on unsuspecting victims... the unwilling to question authority lead us all to an obvious trap set by the oligarchs who see that the end (of them) is near.

You are the worst purveyor of propaganda, @QatzelOk.

Ignore reality. You do it so frequently that it must be second nature to you.

Actually, by posting words on this forum, you are "talking" to everyone on it.

And posting "fear of what the authorities say" in an era where the "authorities" have demonstrated a world-ending level of incompetence and greed, is particulary sad and sheep-like.

What would our leaders have to do before you would consider them illigitimate liars? How many more media lies do you need before you realize that commercial media are NOT trying to inform you or give you information that is any way accurate or neutral?

You've posted some interesting and relevant material in the "What are you eating now" thread. But for the corona threads, all you've provided is brainless hysterics.

I wish those who complain about MSM (D) or media in general could explain how the fifteen billionaires who own all the US media are either trying to trick us into getting vaccines or trying to undermine Trump.

Yes. He, typical of all republicans it seems, does not care a bit that many of these children will suffer lifelong disability. He does not care that they are killing their teachers, parents and grandparents not to mention just some poor innocent fool on the street that runs into one of the plague ships.

For him it is not about compassion, morality, sacrifice for one's fellow man, or Christian love. Must be the Mormon thing. No wait. It is not that. It is the despicable republicans who are literally ignoring the fact that before the election 200,000 Americans will have died because their party failed at leadership. And humanity.

No need to soft pedal this stuff anymore. People who support republicans are dangerous racist scum who believe it is OK to calculate just how many people should die to get Trump reelected. Meanwhile Trump is enamored with Kim, Putin and Erdogan. Republican = traitor.
