Many SE Asian countries, that did very well, are normally very socially interactive. Social distancing works because the people do it, not because it's cultural. eg. Groups of people eating together out of the same dishes is very commonplace, in Thailand. They probably have more social interaction that most North Americans.

I mean certain cultures have more physical contact in their social interactions.

@Rugoz Yes, and a place like Brazil and compare it to Japan, would be a very good example of that. The differences between most other countries, are slight, however.

One of the first videos out of China was of a man collapsing, apparently from Covid-19. Actually, he had an epileptic seizure that was unrelated. Youtube videos of it went viral, however, as were other bullshit about China, like them welding gates and locking people into buildings.

So you are still getting your science information from the Fake News instead of Youtube.

Looks like you also get your information from the Fake News.

False claim: distressing Instagram video shows Chinese man with violent coronavirus symptoms
A report from China News Service from February 14, 2019 here corroborates that the video in question stems from an incident involving a 52-year-old male passenger traveling on the Chonqing Rail Transit, who that same morning had fainted and vomited blood. The report states that the station staff arrived immediately and hailed doctors, who confirmed that the man, shown in the video, had died. A review of his medical history found that he suffered from late-stage liver cancer.

I'll have the weekly update up tomorrow, but here's a few articles I found interesting. First, Florida's governor is pushing the state to follow the path laid down by Europe for school openings:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis: Miami-area counties can resume in-person learning

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday said Florida’s two most-populous counties can resume in-person learning on Monday, pointing to progress against the coronavirus pandemic and his pledge to let parents choose between online learning or the classroom.

Mr. DeSantis highlighted the option as part of Miami-Dade and Broward counties’ move into “phase 2” of the COVID-19 recovery, as businesses and schools across the country try to regain a sense of normality amid the pandemic.

“It really clears the pathway for in-person learning to resume — of course, at the parent’s discretion,” Mr. DeSantis said.

He said it is critical to let students see their teachers and mentors in person.

“That will soon be a reality,” he said.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez said the new phase allows him to open a series of sites, including the local zoo, though he will not be opening bars and nightclubs at this point.

Florida was one of several Sun Belt states that saw an alarming uptick in COVID-19 cases and deaths after Memorial Day, squandering gains made after a nationwide effort to separate people and control transmission.

While Midwest states see cases surges, the Sun Belt has gotten its spike under control.

Mr. DeSantis said the number of coronavirus-positive hospital patients in Florida is down 70% from July. Miami-Dade has driven the percentage of tests returning positive to 4.87% and Broward’s positivity rate is down to 3.19%.

Experts say communities should strive for a positivity rate below 10% to ensure they are catching enough cases....

And at least one bank is pushing to get people back in the office--in New York City. So far it's just the top officers, I have to wonder how much kickback they'll get from workers that have gotten used to working remotely once the orders extend to those lower down the ladder.

JPMorgan Chase orders senior employees to return to offices

America’s biggest bank is ordering its top workers to start returning to their offices before the month’s end.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. will require its most senior sales and trading employees to start physically coming to their work by Sept. 21, Bloomberg News reported Thursday.

The order covers “managing directors and executive directors who oversee subordinates,” Bloomberg reported, citing “a person briefed on the plans.”
It does not cover people with child-care or health reasons to continue working from home.

JPMorgan Chase already had opened an increasing amount of its office space in recent weeks to workers who wanted to return, but this move is the biggest yet by a U.S. bank to restaff its physical offices.

Sales and trading staff were told of the new orders in phone calls Wednesday, Bloomberg reported.

Bloomberg already had reported earlier in the week that the financial giant’s executives were considering “compelling workers to return to New York City and other places where Covid-19 had subsided.”

Some of the bank’s top officials, including Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon, already had been working from the bank’s offices this summer in order to persuade other employees it was safe to do so, the source told Bloomberg.

The humiliations for the lockdown liberals are coming so thick and fast its hard to keep up. France passes 10,000 case a day. France is almost the king of lockdown fascism. The whole lockdown strategy is being exposed for the completely unnecessary and worthless infliction of suffering that it was. In Scotland cases have reached a four month high, a totally deserved humiliation for the lock down Queen herself Nicola Sturgeon and her hate filled agenda. For our American posters, think of her as the British Hilary Clinton.

The pattern is clear across western countries, the places that had the most severe and early lockdowns are now experiencing the biggest rise in cases. But even in the places with the big increasees in cases, deaths and hospitalisations remain low. The Liberals are terrified, simply terrified. They are scared shitless that people are going to start to notice that the explosion in cases is not leading to an explosion in deaths or hospitalisations. Their dream of compulsory vaccines, and the whole rest of the fake-Green, health and safety, woke surveillance state that they were hoping to bring in with compulsory vaccines is now under threat.

This is a nice way of explaining how both mainstream parties use the collective-stupidity that is fabricated by mainstream media to "make their case" for oligarchy time and time again.

If the current oligarchy are "crying wolf" about the pandemic, their heads must be collected into stylish brass buckets by people speaking French.

I am one generally speaking who is prudent and believes in the positive potential of people in government to do good, if they're of good will to begin with of course. So I have counseled wearing masks universally from the beginning, and use of Hydroxychloroquine as a prophylactic (good results worldwide, but the American medical/pharma establishment doesn't want people to know that), and was in favor of a much stricter, shorter and more universal lockdown than what we experienced in the USA. I'm wanting to see a good and effective set of vaccines and treatments as soon as is possible. It is possible to believe in all this without politicizing the pandemic. But it just goes to show that if anything, our ruling Oligarchy is pretty Anarchic and tends to believe in minimal government compared to elsewhere perhaps.

If they're going to rule, rule efficiently and with the common good in mind, and they'll have the praise and the rewards by earning them.

Here's the latest weekly update:

Image

For Red State/Blue State:

US ave. deaths per million (increase, change in rate)
  • Red States 510.0 (24.9, -1.9)
  • Purple States 367.9 380.4 (12.5, -2.4)
  • Blue States 728.4 737.5 (9.1, -1.6)

If they were included on my weekly chart above, Blue States would rank 11th out of 90 (-1), Red States 27th (+0), and Purple States 35th (-1).

And for a look at the recent report labeling the Sturgis bike rally a superspreader event, there's The Sturgis Bike Rally, Sensationalist Reporting, and Broken Disease Models. It's too long to post the whole thing, but in conclusion:

At the moment we should view the headlines touting six figure transmission numbers as extremely misleading. It is possible, although probably unlikely, that the numbers do turn out to be correct but the evidence seems to say otherwise. Just look at the previous predictions regarding the spread and lethality of Covid-19 and other diseases. They have been wrong time and time again. Perhaps one day we will have widespread reliable and trustworthy epidemiological modeling practices, but today is not that day.

However, this issue is illustrative of a larger and more concerning practice, the politicization of public health. Biker rallies and Trump events are super-spreaders but countrywide racial justice protests aren’t. If you thought the debate about climate change was irritating, wait till you see where this takes us.

Dr. Dowd sums this up more eloquently when she writes

Exaggerated headlines and cherry-picking of results for “I told you so” media moments can dangerously undermine the long-term integrity of the science—something we can little afford right now.

I would like to be one of the first to say that I will gladly accept the findings of the Sturgis study if an appropriate amount of evidence and scrutiny can confirm it. However, at this time it has been questioned if not debunked by leading specialists in the field. Furthermore, it shares eerie conformity to the politicized and sensational reporting on Covid-19 that the country would do best without.

By reevaluating the methodology used to report on the Sturgis rally, Black Lives Matter protests, anti-lockdown protests, Trump rallies, and so on, we can reach some more productive conclusions. There are certain things that are so significant and the tradeoffs favorable enough that they are worth braving a pandemic, such as Woodstock.

Or maybe we should take a step back, take a deep breath, and reevaluate the way we go about all of this.

Your government is only "minimal" when it comes to helping the weakest and most vulnerable with social programs and mandated equalization of opportunity and quality of life.

But when it comes to enriching the already rich, your government is incredibly active.

I guess it's easier and less time-consuming for oligarches to dream up scams to enrich their friends, than it is to actually help their own societies to become something other than get-rich-schemes for the rentier class.

To trust "the authorities" in our system is like trusting Christopher Columbus if you were Taino. Our authorities are always "discovering" ways to rip everyone else off.

I would aver that the Oligarchs are pretty anarchic when dealing with each other. One can see this in the rivalries between Mark Cuban and Michael Bloomberg against Donald Trump for example.

Yes, but when push comes to shove, even the in-fighting elites know that they can find "unity" by targetting suckers and losers like everyone on this board, and everyone I know in real life.

Here is a quote from a writer that captures the lack of respect for the well-being of its victims that the Western Oligarchies have.

The U.S. supported a military coup in Bolivia in the fall of 2019, which would open the country to multinationals hoping to exploit local lithium supplies. While the indigenous in Bolivia would be left to deal with the toxic byproducts of lithium processing, multinationals make obscene profits. Similarly, the U.S. and Canada supported a failed military coup in Venezuela, a country with large oil deposits. In Canada, our government sends the RCMP to assault Indigenous land defenders on unceded land to ensure the construction of a pipeline. Owners of capital and their lackey governments direct the flow of resources in one direction and for the sole purpose of exploitation.

https://mronline.org/2020/09/14/the-int ... ft-theory/

So this is our elite. They lie in order to make a lot of money by getting other people to steal resources for them. And they steal these resources from people who are much poorer than they are.

They also require an incredibly ignorant general population in their own countries who will believe virtually any lie they are told.

THIS is the governance-environment in which "the Scapegoat Virus" is playing out.

Not saying I disagree. But I also know from history that ''Caesarism'' starts when an Oligarch or group of Oligarchs weds their personal power to the Populist aspirations of the common folk, and weaponizes it to do away with the other Oligarchs...

And you had to go all the way back to the Roman Empire to find an example of this that you were allowed to discuss openly?

Amazing how ignorant we are forced to pretend to be about Modern politics and warfare. Like how exactly did the current banksters replace the ones who founded the USA? Might be a bit of a Caesaristic narrative in there somewhere.

The manner in which I gave my illustration is more a function of my views on Modernity than any reticence on my part to discuss honestly modern politics. That is, fallen human nature hasn't changed at all despite the propaganda of Modernists.
