The ballot paper looks incredibly simple. Theresa May was handpicked by the Tory leadership after David Cameron's resignation as a Brexit prime minister. I don't think there is an Aussie-style internal revolt against her within the Tories. The majority of Conservative MPs have publicly said they will support the PM and she is likely to survive the confidence vote by a wide margin.

After securing 63% of the total vote, she is now immune from a leadership challenge for a year. The prime minister won the confidence vote with a majority of 83, with 63% of Conservative MPs backing her and 37% voting against her.

In fairness, would ANYONE be able to do a better job? As far as I can tell, she basically got screwed with the Brexit hot potato.

Indeed Rancid. Nobody could have done a "better job" because the thing everyone hates is the one thing the EU insists of - "The Back Stop". If there is no backstop there can be no deal. Although currently all we have is a withdrawal agreement as no trade deals have even been discussed. And as such it doesn't matter who was leading Brexit, we would basically have the same thing being voted on in parliament.

Anyway she has power for at least a year. She now has impunity if she decides to do another referendum and there is nothing the Brexiteers can do to stop her. They have fucked themselves in the ass.

No she doesn't. If she does that she may as well move over now and let Corbyn take the job. He's certain to get it if she does that. They'll punish them at the next ballot and her party will be turfed.

She isn't free to do that. She has basically agreed to push Brexit through harder now, and agreed to resign afterwards. That was her concession to stay in power and she has to hold to it or the Party is out next election.

The only way to remove May as PM now 'for one year' is though a "no confidence" vote in parliament. If she promises another EU referendum, the SNP, Lib Dems and most of Labour will support her. So she does have a degree of impunity regardless of the promises she made (like a promise by an MP is worth anything FYI). So yeah, it all depends on what move she wants to play and she can play more moves today than yesterday. Yesterday was a vital outcome for people who want a peoples vote and I would love this to be thrown back in the faces of the Brexiteers.

Yeah, Westminster. Where back stabbing is unheard of? :eh:

She has announced she does not intend to run for office again so she does not need to please anyone. The Brexiteers stabbed her in the back by bringing a motion of no confidence against her and the remainers voted to save her. Whose interests does she serve now?

Whomever promises her big contracts, a memoirs advance, etc, for when she leaves. And her husband stands to lose from the tax changes the EU is planning.....

I wouldn't be quite so sure of her surviving the next few weeks, let alone a full year. After all, Margaret Thatcher "won" her no-confidence vote in 1990 by a margin that wasn't much thinner than this one, and she resigned within a week.

I'm not saying this as some gloating hard Brexiter - I want her to hold on rather than a clown like Boris or David Davis getting in. She's, sadly, the best of a truly pathetic bunch right now.
