These parents are pathetic. I just went through my son's clothing drawers because I have to get rid of clothes that are too small for him to wear and give it away to someone who wants them.
I go through all the possessions and I also read letters or notes. You have to be aware of what your kid does and is doing. You can't be totally unaware of who your kid hangs out with, who his friends are, and what topics and activities they are into.
If you are not paying attention you are being negligent about parenting.
