I have empathy for criminals, as I know that not all of them are irredeemable. You seem to imply that.
To your suggestion that I am offended. Feelings have nothing to do with this, and you are displaying a great many, since facts don't support such a heavy-handed punishment from crimes.
@SSDR you're the one who brought up eugenics when you talked of sterilizing criminals. Criminal behavior is not genetic, so this isn't going to solve any problems with future crimes.
You are also going to punish someone with sterilization for life for a crime? How severe does this crime need to be to qualify for your totalitarian punishment?
Burning a car is a mistake. I am sure it seemed like a good idea at the time, but people often make bad decisions. Some worse than others. Not all of these mistakes merit a life sentence, or permanent punishment. A car can be paid for.
