I voted yes in that I find myself to be quite directly involved in the state of it's policies by it's representatives. It only feels meaningful to address that which one is involved or participant in some sense.

https://www.ethicalpolitics.org/ablunden/works/subject-position.htm
Moral discourse which is based around events, dilemmas or relationships in which the participants in the discourse are not participants in a relevant common project, is meaningless. What should the French government do about the hijab? What position should a socialist take in Iraq today? How can there be sensible answers to these questions for someone who is not French or not in Iraq?

And while I love loving here, it's hard to not to bump into shit that should not be a particular way for the quality of life of the people living here or which can certainly be improved upon.

Yes, I am critical and negative about the USA.

This is because the USA had risen to world pariah-hood, having gotten its current human capital by exterminating 100 nations in a series of genocides that went on for 200 years.

Every empire destroys a piece of the earth, and the USA (and its UK and Israeli allies) have ensured that this empire will take out more of the earth's livability than any other empire in history.

The USA empire (with its Zionist and British allies) might be the one that ends humanity.

No issues with normal Americans or their traditional way of life but dislike the current sociological and ideological trends emerging there, especially the hyper-individualism. Feel like these get exported to the rest of the world, especially the English speaking world and other Western countries. Dislike the live to work attitude that they seem to be glorifying at the moment. I've never liked that they don't have any social safety net or state health services and that a lot of them find this normal. Not a fan of 21st century American popular culture but like the traditional American cultures although I know very little about them. Think the US foreign policy is myopic, childish and dangerous. The liberal gun laws strike me as insane. So the issue for me isn't America or its people but what is happening there culturally and ideologically (the direction the country is going in culturally and ideologically). Don't feel any sanctimonious moral superiority to Americans either.

Other. Negative? Not really, I believe the US is well above average/median in terms of countries when it comes to balancing between social issues, freedom, economics, etc. The kind of things we associate with "being good".

Critical, yes for sure. But critical does not mean "i don't like this". I am critical of my mother, my brother, my friends, myself. To be honest in an imperfect system you must be critical.

Yea, basically this, but the poll doesn't have enough options.

One could argue the hyper-individualism is actually waning in the US though. At no other time prior in the history of America could I say "I think UBI or socialized health might be a good idea" and not fear the government for saying it.

So far so good folks, I'm appreciative of what people have said so far. I picked my options the way I did because I'm asking for some fairly straightforward answers on the initial vote-to get people committed and thinking about your answers. Whatever you answer though, is important to me.

Personally, I feel like my thoughts and those of average Americans have diverged quite a bit, but for all that I know that I cannot of course change the course America is going on anyway, whether it's for the good or for bad.

I also know this; Americans by and large could care less what Non-Americans think in any case, and even don't really care much what other Americans think either.

The US wants to impose it's political system on all countries in the world despite the fact that it has repeatedly been shown to be highly damaging to countries that adopt it and deeply dysfunctional domestically. Anyone who supports sovereignty and freedom (in the form of self determination) should oppose USA's foreign policy.

I voted yes.

Negative.

America is a degenerate, arrogant, war mongering, hubris, shithole country.

Americans are probably the most propogandized people in the world.

It comes from the Hollywood films, the Fox News, the CNN, the NPR, the shitty TV shows, etc.

Americans are trained to utterly lack empathy.

But, they are trained in the way of gratuitous sympathy.

When bad shit happens in other places, Americans are trained to shed crocodile tears.

Like when Covid broke out bad in Italy, and Americans shed many crocodile tears.

If bad shit happens in the US, Americans are trained to brush it off, and not really give a shit.

America is a shithole country, degenerate, and with few redeeming qualities.

I am practically tripping over homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk every time I go to the supermarket to spend my foodstamps, and buy overpriced beer and cigarettes.

And, I am a rung or too from joining their ranks, I am basically homeless already, squatting on borrowed land in a junk RV, and unemployed for a bit (and with few benefits).

America, with it's massive gulag, tries to lecture other countries about righteousness.

America is the true shithole country.

The American left is not so good either. It's all very dejected and selfish. It's very materialistic sort of leftism.

I hope I didn't offend you. I have nothing but the highest respect for Americans (Americans who follow the true and good American culture). My criticism of America is not of what America is in its essence but what America is doing at the moment and the direction America is choosing. I want America to choose a better way.

I don't see hyper-individualism in the USA. What I see is a nation in thrall to their golden idol, the Great God Property. Like the Aztecs and others, they have arranged their institutions to create a line of human beings continuously shuffling forward to be lain on their idol's altar and eviscerated in a ritual of human sacrifice.

You gotta work on that anger, buddy.

I have been doing so in my own right.

People will have differences of opinion.

Doesn't mean I am right, nor that you are right.

Not worth getting pissed off about though.

Better reserve that anger for more important things, like if your friend Billy steals your girlfriend, and you need to punch him in the nose.

Raging over politics isn't worth it. Better to just enjoy the brilliance of the flames as the world is burning.
