It's not just that the voice isn't someone from India. It's that the "Apu" character is an over-simplified satire of an Indian man, just like Jerry Lewis did "imitations" of Chinese men. When you look at those Jerry Lewis "satires" today, the racism is alarmingly obvious. I wonder if the "Apu" character will age any better.
