A lot of what we see here is just faff, which is Brit slang for BS.
This is especially true lately, now that China has entered the propaganda wars..
The one thing that concerns me is their massive investments in technology. 5G is an example. They are imitating Japan, I suspect. Dumping massive amounts of money to dominate a market. While Republicans huffed and puffed, and did nothing, China stole our solar market. Now they are investing massive sums in AI. That will take time, but if it works out for them, they could wind up owning the next technological 'revolution'.
One of the things Japan did was grab a huge hunk of the car market. Everybody knows EVs are the next big thing, and China is investing in them. Take a look at this:
