Of course it's clear. Then again, it's not supposed to be a deterrent. It's punishment...

The assertion that it deters the executed criminal from committing crimes is just silly.

Really?

So your assertion is that executed criminals will commit crimes? What crimes are you aware of that were perpetrated by an executed criminal?

Ask any prison guard. The murderers are frequently the least dangerous prisoners and the least likely to re-offend.

That doesn't matter. It's fabulous that they're unlikely to re-offend.

They still need to be punished...

And the death penalty as it is applied in the US is an absurdity.

How so?

Time to do away with the death penalty because it is the smart thing to do.

We should employ it more often...

The death penalty is an absurdity because the race of the victim and defendant are more important in determining if the death penalty will be used than the actual facts of the crime.

Capital punishment should still be used, but in a limited sense. It does not deter crime and innocent people can be executed, and thus it should only be used when there is no other way to incapacitate a particular criminal. The main types of people subjected to it should be people who kill after or while escaping prison and those who try to order hits on people while in prison.

No it doesn't. This is a failure to understand the most basic science. in particular correlation is not causation and the Bell Curve. Relativity small difference in the mean can produce very large differences in the tails. So for what ever reason American Blacks have significantly higher levels of criminality and violence than White Americans. This means that proportionately Black people and in particular Black men commit more murders. But the death penalty is only applied to the "worst" murders. Hence (if we're half way intelligent and half way educated) due to the Bell Curve we should expect the proportion of Black death row inmates to be significantly higher even than their proportion amongst murderers.

Ok, Ok I realise I m debating with lefties who confuse education with Cultural Marxist indoctrination. So that's probably a bit too abstract for you. Look at women. Men are far more likely to commit murder than women. In the same way when we say an American Muslim is far more likely to have committed murder than an American Infidel, doesn't mean that the majority of American Muslims are murderers, this doesn't mean that the majority of men are murderers. What it does mean is that although something like 15% of murderers are women, only about 2% of death row inmates are women. This doesn't mean we live in a man hating society. This doesn't mean we need to start a "Male lives matter" campaign.
