So I guess to just clarify my position (I am biased here)... I think that the Armenian Genocide did indeed occur, and that the deaths were a direct result of government actions.

Just a little background: The Armenian Genocide was the forced mass removal and resulting deaths of hudreds of thousands of ethnic Armenians from the Ottoman Empire while it was under the government of the Committee of Union of Progress between the years of 1915 and 1917. The evidence in support of genocide is concrete, and I believe obvious. And although most international circles agee that the genocide did occur, the Turkish government to this days denies it was genocide, and the deaths were not at the hands of the state, but rater due to ethnic fighting and disease.

What disgusts me is that to date only 21 nations (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Arme ... nition.png) recognize the genocide, due to the fact that they don't wish to hurt relations with Turkey over the nation of Armenia.

In my studies of the First World War I came across this and found in very intresting. Some figuers I found suggested up to 1.5 million Armenians were killed. I too am biased and believe that the Armenian Genocide did occur. I've seen both Film and Photographs of the mass movement of people and the deaths that it caused. Plus also read some primary documents written by a German officer in Turkey at the time.

Perhaps Turkey should admit that it happened. It could be a stepping stone in EU acceptance.

Turkey did admit it once (under Ataturk I think), but then took back their apology and denied it.

BTW, there was a thread about this a little while back, you might to dig that up.

Another popular Armenian lie, which has not been proved yet.
