He was a marxist so there is that. I loved the age of revolution, his periodization is great and research is broad enough to have plenty of popular appeal. I'm sure you could critique him for over simplification or whatever but frankly his books are masterworks and everyone should read all of them.

Hobsbawn came from a time when Marxist historians( Like Christopher Hill, EP Thompson and George Rude) wrote well researched and argued books . I am not in anyway a Marxist but I love some of their work.

Luckily postmodernists have not made leeway into British History departments
