Course Description:
UC Berkeley students with an interest in real-time strategy games and the competitive gaming landscape are encouraged to participate in this class.

This course will go in-depth in the theory of how war is conducted within the confines of the game Starcraft. There will be lecture on various aspects of the game, from the viewpoint of pure theory to the more computational aspects of how exactly battles are conducted. Calculus and Differential Equations are highly recommended for full understanding of the course. Furthermore, the class will take the theoretical into the practical world by analyzing games and replays to reinforce decision-making skills and advanced Starcraft theory.

Brilliant. As if we didn't have Poli Sci majors to waste academic resources already.

In ~2001 there was a West Point prof that had a website devoted to Starcraft as a means to look at various aspects of warfare, and as a fan site. Star Craft was part of a course he taught, though I believe it was a small part.

His strategy and analysis section was sorely lacking information about wraith hordes, but otherwise had a good glass hammer section.

"Click faster and better" is the only way to win any Starcraft multiplayer game. I would suggest that the highest potential can be found in the age range of 15-25. After that, the brain begins to decay... :p

Haha, n00b.

APM of 140 is a prerequisite for being any good, yes. Beyond that, it's all about skill.

^ I had always thought that the Science of Superheroes course made sense. It teaches physics and other areas of science, by showing how superheroes powers are generally absurd. It is not that one needs a college course to tell you that Superman's powers are not real, but rather for someone who is not going to go much further in science, and is probably not that interested in the subject, it gives an incentive to study and makes it more interesting.

I disagree about superheroes. Imagine a Marine in full combat gear was patrolling your neighborhood. Wouldn't it reduce the crime rate? Superheroes are more of a social impossibility than a scientific one.

I take it the course just pokes fun at comic books.

Until you hit 400 APM and above, the units HP/Attack ratio is so low, about 4~6 for early game units, that who ever gets the most first hits in the first skirmish wins it. Someone with an APM of 140 stands no chance and that's because the starcraft AI is so shit at getting the units to attack on time, they stand still for about 1.5 hits before they do anything. I raped in starcraft without any late game, when warcraft 3 came out with the improved AI on mele and having a it was the biggest fuck I've had in video games.
