Researchers say they have identified the world’s oldest asteroid crater: a 43-milewide scar in Western Australia’s outback that was created more than 2 billion years ago. This massive impact may have brought an end to the ice age known as Snowball Earth, when most of the world was covered with ice sheets up to 3 miles thick. The Yarrabubba impact structure is barely recognizable as a crater, because wind, rain, glaciation, and plate tectonics have scraped several miles off our planet’s surface over millions of millennia....

Well, to be pedantic, this seems to be the "world's oldest asteroid impact crater ever found".

Somehow I like these news most (with either AFC Bournemouth or AFC Wimbledon winning a match being close seconds).
