Haaretz wrote:Netanyahu Orders Defense Minister Not to Return Terrorists’ Bodies to Palestinian Authority

Prime minister’s associates refuse to reveal reason for instructions, which are counter to stated position of both defense minister and IDF chief of staff.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon not to return any more terrorists’ bodies held by the army to the Palestinian Authority, according to sources in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Netanyahu’s associates refused to say what the reason or background was for these instructions, which were given to Ya’alon on Sunday and were first reported by Channel 2.

The prime minister’s orders contradict the position of Ya’alon, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot and Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, the coordinator of government activities in the territories. They all believe that retaining the bodies escalates tensions and further inflames the situation on the Palestinian side. Ya’alon also objects to it on moral grounds, arguing that Israel has no need to “trade in bodies."

Over the past three months, there has been a dispute between Ya’alon and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan over the issue of returning terrorists’ bodies to their families. Erdan has told the police not to return the bodies of East Jerusalem assailants to their families unless they agree to a series of conditions regarding the nature of the funeral.

Erdan and the police claim they want to prevent the holding of mass funerals that could further agitate the Palestinians.

As a result, the police have been holding the remains of East Jerusalem terrorists while the IDF was returning the corpses of West Bank assailants to their families. The PA has raised the issue of terrorists’ bodies in various international forums and has used it to attack Israel diplomatically.

Looks like the trade in corpses is back on.

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan has got what he wanted and one would have expected as much from Netanyahu. The perfidious Israelis are not to be believed on several counts. About 190 Palestinians have been killed by Israelis in the current wave of violence since last September and on the say-so of the IDF all of these are labeled terrorists who were shot while attacking Israelis. But we know this is untrue as we have proof that disabled and wounded prisoners are executed by soldiers and "Border" Police. Sometimes the IDF will say that two "terrorists" were shot while attacking with one knife. So, let us not believe that every victim of the Israeli occupation forces are terrorists or accept the Israeli's definition. Secondly, the Israelis are claiming that the reason they do not return the dead for burial by their families is because they want to prevent public funerals which can inflame Palestinian passion but withholding dead bodies only serves to stir up tensions the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Thirdly, although not mentioned in the opening post, and quite sinister, a condition placed on families of the dead for having bodies returned is that they must promise not to have postmortems carried-out!

Makes one wonder what they have to hide.

Well, Israelis have been described as heartless and perfidious by him. I wonder what next.

Not a good soul among the Israeli populace... Or maybe just a very small margin.

Are Israelis truly an evil people? Or maybe the leadership is thoroughly corrupt and crimes clearly occur quite often and they are only whitewashed as counter terror?

Could you enlighten us what we 'know'? I know of an incident where a terrorist was executed but the perpetrator is facing trial. Can you enlighten us more of this systematic perfidy?

I am not sure whether it is rude of me to comment on a post that refers to me in the third person but, for what it's worth, I am convinced that there are some ethical Israeli Jews and I am impressed by their noble attempts to expose Israeli war crimes and crimes against humanity. Against them are the majority of Israelis, their politicians, their military, and the media. It is these latter opponents I mean by "Israelis" as a shorthand and in no way should reflect on the small number of honorable Israeli citizens.

As for knowing about only one incident of murder by an Israeli soldier, "Israeli forces have a long history of carrying out unlawful killings – including extrajudicial executions – in the Occupied Palestinian Territories with impunity. Amnesty International has documented a number of similar cases during the upsurge in violence that began in October."

From what an outsider can tell, it would seem so. They elect warlike racists, consider the Palestinians to be untermensch, either wholeheartedly support the occupation of their neighbors or keep their lips buttoned about it while crimes are daily committed in their name. It is a fascist, apartheid state taking form as the world looks-on.

Dear god, when you 've thought you 've heard it all...

Vice article, 26/02/2016 wrote:When the family received the body back, it was an ice box, still frozen solid in parts. The handover took place at a checkpoint in the early evening. In exchange for his son's corpse, Farouk Hamdan paid a deposit of 20,000 shekels ($5,100) to Israeli security forces. The money, he was told, would be returned as long as he kept to his side of the deal: No large funeral and no autopsy.

The issue has created friction in Israel's parliament. Earlier this month the Knesset Ethics Committee banned three Arab parliamentarians from participating in committee discussions after they participated in a one-minute silence where Palestinians killed in the latest round of violence were honored as martyrs. The banned MPs also visited families lobbying for the return of bodies from Israel.
