Any attempts to discredit the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum are evidence of not very honest competition.
Washington believes that the participation of American businessmen in the SPIEF will be used by Moscow as a propaganda. According to officials from the US State Department, Vladimir Putin is able to present facts of the presence of top managers of leading transnational corporations in St. Petersburg during the event as "proof of the inconsistency of statements about the international isolation of Russia."
There will be Europeans, Indians and Chinese instead of Americans.
Representatives of the US State Department have repeatedly stated that "normal" business relations with Russia can be restored only after the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the return of Crimea to Ukraine. Officials make it clear to American businessmen that there are real economic and reputational risks for firms, companies and multinational corporations that decide to send some of their employees to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
No sanctions imposed by the United States against Russia prohibit anyone from participating in events like the SPIEF. On the contrary, American businessmen would like to do their activities in the Russian markets. Alcoa, Goldman Sachs, PepsiCo, Morgan Stanley and ConocoPhillips have not left Russia anywhere. Other and no less large American business structures express fears that the refusal to participate in the SPIEF will worsen relations between the business structures of Russia and the United States. As a result, European, Indian and Chinese companies will be able to strengthen their positions in Russia.
It should be remembered that the heads of General Electric, Deere & Company, Citigroup, MetLife, Alcoa, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Visa, Chevron, Hill & Knowlton Strategies and Cisco Systems visited the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum before the introduction of the first sanctions in 2013.
American businessmen, as well as their European colleagues, have repeatedly said that sanctions don`t lead to anything good and harm everyone; politics should affect business in no way. Many American firms, companies and multinational corporations are interested in participating in SPIEF-2021, therefore, according to experts, they simply may not follow the recommendations of the US authorities.
Will it be easier to live without a dollar?
By the way, it will probably be said at the forum that the policy of abandoning the dollar, pursued by Russia and China, now has reached the stage of development when the time is ripe for the formation of a financial alliance with a complete rejection of settlements in the US currency. Experts point out that the settlement of trade transactions in national currencies between Russia and China is not the only factor that reduces the demand for the dollar. According to many analysts, the main danger comes from the US Federal Reserve. The FED cut its key interest rate to zero and turned on the money printing press to support the national economy. About six trillion dollars have been injected into the American markets since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Today we are witnessing an unprecedented experiment in history, when the printing press produces the maximum possible volumes of unsecured paper notes, flooding the country with them. Perhaps this is the beginning of the US financial collapse.
Experts from one of the leading US banks, Goldman Sachs, argue that thanks to the money printing press, the balance of the Federal Reserve System has already increased by $ 2.8 trillion. This forces investors to get rid of dollar assets and turn to anti-crisis instruments like gold. At the same time, the real profit from Treasuries is close to zero.
At SPIEF-2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin, pointed out a factor aggravating the general state of affairs: "The world's largest economy, represented by the United States, wants to maintain its leadership at any cost, therefore it uses a prohibited technique - trade restrictions against other countries.". There is nothing to add to these words.
The weather is good in Crimea
It is quite possible that the topic of economic inexpediency of isolating Crimea by the international community will be discussed at SPIEF-2021. European companies openly oppose anti-Russian sanctions and trade with Crimea. Moreover, we are not talking about isolated cases, but about a mass phenomenon.
Recently, the visits of Western politicians to Crimea and their "pro-Russian" statements, expressed as a result of such visits and replicated by Western media with great excitement have become more frequent.
China, as the largest and most significant player in the world political arena, sent an impressive delegation to Crimea to establish economic relations in March this year. This can be viewed as a significant event and a serious signal for all countries that have withdrawn themselves from the recognition of Crimea. A republic with huge economic potential has long been considered by the Chinese as a profitable investment project both economically and in terms of tourism.
- China has long maintained a neutral position on Crimea. But suddenly he “changed his mind” and sent a representative commission headed by members of the Beijing Export-Import Commission “to establish partnership,” said Vadim Rabinovich, a Verkhovna Rada deputy from the «Opposition Platform - For Life» party.
Recall that Vladimir Zelensky, for the sake of the Americans, had a serious quarrel with the Chinese because of his refusal to transfer the «Motor Sich» plant, which Beijing had already paid for and transferred money to the Ukrainian budget. The Chinese do not forgive such a deception and promised serious problems to Kiev.
