Rancid wrote:Environmentalist and the oil lobby did a wonderful job of scaring the shit out of everyone out of nuclear energy.
Yes, except their lies with respect to global warming and opposition to nuclear power make no scientific sense whatsoever.
Rancid wrote:I think it's because environmentalist were largely too stupid to even realize that big oil was in on killing nuclear. Had they been smart enough to realize this, they might not have fought nuclear so hard.
If they realized any of this, they wouldn't be fighting energy at all. It is the greatest thing that has ever happened to human civilization.

There are a lot of Democrats who would vote poverty for themselves if everyone else had to do it too. Only when the deprivation gets too tough does the primal part of the brain override their embrace of fucked up thinking in order to maintain their in-group status within the party.

Apparently they are. They recently fined Jean Marie Le Pen for homophobic remarks, which were pretty tame in my view.
France's Jean-Marie Le Pen fined for homophobic remarksThis is what passes for a hate crime in France:
Jean Marie Le Pen wrote:"I think this family trait should have been kept away from such a ceremony which would have benefited from more discretion," Le Pen said at the time in a video blog.
Here's another example of "hate speech" in France:
Jean Marie Le Pen wrote:Le Pen was also found guilty of hate speech for a comment made to Le Figaro newspaper in 2016, when he said that "homosexuals are like salt in soup. If there isn't enough it's a bit bland; when there's too much, it's inedible."
Seems like a solid guy. You can see why France used to be a great power, and why they are such a pointless country today. I do hope the global elite get what they deserve. They seem to be holding off the hordes, but I suspect their day of reckoning will be within my lifetime.
Rugoz wrote:Fukushima is killing nuclear, and the questionable future competitiveness (if you factor in all costs).
Fukushima killed less than 20 people. 20k died in the Tsunami. It's the elite that is trying to put the genie back in the bottle. I don't think it's that easy to do. Small pebble bed reactors in subterranean enclosures would easily address the security concerns of the first reactors. Nobody flies on old aircraft; yet, we hold on to old reactors because of the activists prevent any change. Fukushima owners didn't implement any enhanced measures to prevent disasters so that they could avoid lawsuits. Lawyers are that much of a nuisance.
Rancid wrote:True, but you wonder if we had done more nuclear going back the last 60 years. Would carbon emissions be much lower today?
Yes. Obviously. However, carbon-dioxide is not a pollutant. So we're not worse off in that sense. We have more fly ash and cropped mountains in coal country, but that is a result of stupid people being allowed to vote.

We can only hope. However, look how long it took to bring Merkel to her knees. Jesus. A so-called conservative that champions an invasion of your country? The EU is the Weimar Republic extended to the entire continent. This won't end well, but like the Weimar Republic, it's lasting longer than makes sense.
