Works for me...

:?:

@Hong Wu never mentioned any of those facts.

I mentioned you only because the two of you were asking the same question, more or less.

Sure. Then again, I've never stated otherwise.

I never said you claimed otherwise.

Absolutely not. Those policies don't make anyone anything. Those policies are nothing unless someone decides to take advantage of them. Their mere existence, though, accomplishes nothing...

Okay. In a magical conservative fantasy land where people are generally too stupid to use advantages that they have access to, you could be right.

But we are talking about Denmark and Greenland here. Citizens of that country are smart enough to want and use these services.

In fact, any smart person would.

I'm still amazed that there's been no attempt at a rule against being facetious, which some of our users seem to have an unlimited capacity for.

Also for the 15 year-old, most of this Greenland stuff has been a joke, besides to say that countries buying territory from each other has been a fairly normal thing in the past.

Code Rood wrote:Either way, this may not end well for Greenland when you know that China and USA want something from you.

I view it as a "don't give China entrance to Greenland" comment in the form of a purchase offer. In more ominous terms, it's a threat of "if you give entrance to China or Russia or attempt to sell Greenland to China or Russia, the US will seize Greenland." The upshot is that Denmark needs to spend more on its military.

Good. One thing you will realize is that older people would change bodies with a young person in a heartbeat, but most would not trade their wisdom or life experience for anything.

How about Mississippi?

A third of Greenlanders live in remote villages far from these services.

A smart person probably wouldn't want to live in Greenland.

Palmyrene wrote:I find the idea of a country buying a whole population of people without their consent to be horrifying.

Actually it would be a government buying land not the people. Both Denmark and the US are democracies so there is little reason to believe that the people of Greenland or Denmark would not be consulted.

Negotiations never got that far thanks to a diplomatic faux pas on the Danish side. But if they had there very well might have a been a referendum on the matter. It is quite possible the Greenlanders might have liked what the US offered them and accepted.

I don't think so.

There were never any negotiations.

The only faux pas was when Trump cancelled a visit to Denmark because everyone in Denmark though he was joking about the sale.

This spat is the most ridiculous thing one could imagine.

I feel sorry for anyone who considers this a serious topic, and sorrow with a bit of indignation mixed in for anyone who reflexively wants to run to Trump's defense over this.

Pure absurdity is all this is. That's essentially a paraphrase of the Danish PM's statement as well, and such a statement is nothing but merely accurate.

We got one dude who thinks the US is capable of invading and killing off all Muslims and completely ignores logistics saying that they'll figure it out.

We've got a Lebanese dude who think forming an alliance with Israel is a good idea.

We've got people in this thread who think buying Greenland is a good idea.

We've two guys who the Christian apocalypse is coming.

We've got a poster who just opposes anything that is Western which means that they support Palestinians but pretend that Uighur Muslims aren't in concentration camps.

We've got, and I swear to god, a German socialist anti-semite (yeah no one's going to make parallels here) who thinks the colonization of Africa is a good thing.

We've two conspiracy theorists, one who thinks Muslims control the world and other thinks Jews control the world and they have arguments.

So yeah, I've seen enough.

You've just described everything which makes PoFo so frickin' awesome. :smokin:

This would allow the US to sneak attack Russia through the north pole!

Svalbard would be a better choice then, it's closer to Russian territorial waters and Norway is just as much easy, or even easier perhaps, to bully as Denmark or Sweden.

Grab them by the pussy! :excited:
