Positively brilliant!!!!!! The fact that the Federal Reserve is now considering Climate change in it's planning somehow has something to do with San Francisco being a center of Liberal Democrat Scum and homeless victims of predatory capitalism. A typical thought process for fanatic "conservative" wack-jobs.

My point was that as a society we should avoid profiteering from basic need and pushing the low paid into debt.

That seems like crazy reasoning to me.

You are the one that brought up " climate change and the economy in San Francisco"...
I was simply helping you out with more information.

once again, positively brilliant …………… the Federal Reserve now is considering the effects of climate change in it's decision making process and Rearview replies with an observation about dirty streets in the Right Wing Wacko's idea of the epicenter of liberal Democratic scum.

Well Rearview here's some more information for you: New research reports Trump voters were more likely to perform poorly on a test of intellectual ability. But, i'm certain that you already knew this  .

Economists call it rent seeking. What it is.. is parasitical behavior that would be kept in check in a healthy country.

Frankly, understanding this will take a little work, and a forum can't work like a classroom. I don't have either the carrot or the stick.

As is so often the case, Stiglitz is perhaps the best place to start.

The dirt, the human feces on the sidewalk, drugs, needles everywhere, etc, etc, is the dystopia that results when humans have a life with no meaning. The left wing liberals provide everything and the level of nihilism keeps increasing. Providing everything to a human leads to a life with no meaning. That is why parents are encouraged to push grown up kids out of the home so they learn how to take care of themselves. Kids that stay home as adults grow bitter, depressed, and nihilistic.

The media keeps hammering the fact that Trump voters are dumb non-college educated white people.

Imagine the media had said: HRC voters are dumb non-college educated (insert any minority group). The uproar about racism would be monumental.

And you people complain that Trump says nasty things about others? :knife: :knife: :knife: :knife: :knife:

No. I am judging them on whether or not they can accurately assess scientific information.

It is simply a fact that many of these people who have been judged as scientifically illiterate just happen to be in a particular group: Trump supporters.

You are very elitist POD. That is surprising for a hard core socialist like you. You are assuming all Trump supporters are dumb. That would be like me assuming all black voters are monolithic and brainwashed because they vote in block for Democrats.

Judging people in that manner is a sign of elitism, intolerance, and bigotry.

Your feelings about me are not an argument.

Do you believe that anthropogenic climate change is real and causing negative impacts?

More than 11,000 scientists from 153 countries have declared a climate emergency, warning in a new report that “untold human suffering” is “unavoidable” without drastic action.

The climate crisis reaches an “emergency” level, according to the study, when “business as usual” — the current action being taken (or not) by society, corporations and governments — is not enough to match the scale of what’s needed to address the situation.

The study, which is published in the journal BioScience by researchers from the University of Sydney, Oregon State University, the University of Cape Town and Tufts University and supported by thousands of other scientist signatories, does not mince words.

It opens by stating, “Scientists have a moral obligation to clearly warn humanity of any catastrophic threat and to ‘tell it like it is.’”

“We declare,” it continues, “... clearly and unequivocally that planet Earth is facing a climate emergency.”

Careful, too much reality, for some of our posters, could cause lethal brain damage.

Hindsite wrote:The clue is that free market capitalism in the past has been able to solve problems and make our lives better.

Nope. Free market capitalism is logically impossible. Capitalism requires private ownership of land, which forces everyone to subsidize landowners. Forced subsidies are not compatible with a free market. QED.
Capitalism looks for a way to build a better mousetrap.

No, capitalism looks for a way to make people pay just for permission to build a mousetrap.
Communism and socialism tries to get us to jump head first into the mousetrap.

Socialism says owning a mousetrap factory makes you an exploiter of those who have mice in their homes.

Nope. Almost none of the signatories is a scientist. They're just random Net users who clicked, "Agree" on an anti-CO2 hysteria website.

What emergency? What situation?

It just misuses them.
It opens by stating, “Scientists have a moral obligation to clearly warn humanity of any catastrophic threat and to ‘tell it like it is.’”

“We declare,” it continues, “... clearly and unequivocally that planet Earth is facing a climate emergency.”

But it just self-evidently isn't, and the authors of this statement know it.

A list of the signatories can be found here.

I decided (arbitrarily) to check the credentials of the Canadian signatories.

Lonnie Aarssen is a professor of biology who publishes regularly:
https://scholar.google.com/citations?us ... AAAJ&hl=en

Peter Abrams is also a professor of biology who publishes regularly:
https://scholar.google.ca/citations?use ... AAAJ&hl=en

Peter Achuff is not technically a scientist, but that is only because he is now retired. He worked as a scientist for most of his life, and is now a scientist emeritus with Parks Canada. He also has published.
https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Peter_Achuff

Sally Aitken is a highly decorated and renowned scientist:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sally_Aitken

Michael Allchin has little online presence, but I found a study he wrote:
https://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/full/1 ... mobileUi=0

I found no information on Flora Amilk, but that is not a surprise since this person is a doctoral student working in her PhD in aquatic biology.

Judith Anderson is retired now but is a leading authority in the biology of muscle regeneration:
https://news.umanitoba.ca/faculty-of-sc ... -emeritus/

You can look at Walter Andreeff’s resumé right here (note the degree in geology):
http://ucalgary.academia.edu/WalterAndr ... culumVitae

Samantha Andrews is a PhD candidate in ecology:
http://chone2.ca/people/samantha-andrews/

Philippe Archambault is a professor of marine ecology (please note that the link is to a French speaking university):
https://www.bio.ulaval.ca/departement-e ... -philippe/

.....and I am officially bored of this.

Either it is a huge coincidence that the few scientists who signed this are all Canadian and have a surname starting with A, or the vast majority of the signatories are scientists.

Julian658 wrote:Do you know what percent of global warming is due to human activity?

You would not believe what the truth is.

How would you solve the problem. Be specific: What would you do?

Nationalise the assets of the top 250 companies, families, groups, et cetera who are found to be contributing to the problem.

Immediately start switching over all polluting industries, services, et cetera, to non-polluting alternatives. Unless it is unnecessary stuff like plastic salad tongs for the dollar store industry, or luxury sports cars. We can just stop those.

But the facts are that if I were magically the leader of the free world and I had the power to do this, the rich and powerful who do pollute would put a bullet in my head if I tried this.
