Do you realize that is authoritarian, repressive, violent, and coercive? Do you realize now that socialism means loss of freedom?

Immediately start switching over all polluting industries, services, et cetera, to non-polluting alternatives.

Give me a few examples, be specific.

Unless it is unnecessary stuff like plastic salad tongs for the dollar store industry, or luxury sports cars. We can just stop those.

I agree, paper bags are better. There is hope for you POD!

But the facts are that if I were magically the leader of the free world and I had the power to do this, the rich and powerful who do pollute would put a bullet in my head if I tried this.

You would fail and like Maduro you would say the USA caused you to fail.

No, nationalising assets is not any of those things.

Sure. Shutting down coal fired power plants and replacing them with nuclear or hydro-electric power plants.

POD, forcefully removing a person's private property is authoritarian, fascist, and violent.

What would you do with the unemployed miners? They are simple people and not exactly nuclear engineers.

No.

For example, imagine a private water company was unable to make a profit and decided to close down. This would deprive a community of potable water. The government then nationalises the water system, paying the company what the remaining assets are worth. The company loses less money than otherwise, the community keeps its access to water, and no one’s rights are infringed.

They could mine uranium and dig out the areas for hydro dams.

POD:

I am against government bailing out failing businesses. That is corporate welfare. In your quest for being super WOKE you did not think this one thru. I say let them fail and have someone else take over (including the state).

Pants-of-dog wrote:....which is what happens in my example.

The only difference is that in my example, the state does not bother waiting until people have no access to clean water before acting.

POD:

I am a libertarian, but access to clean water should be in the hands of the state. Or probably best contracted out to the private sector by the state.

There is a very sad story in Detroit and Flint Michigan. These two cities are run by lefty Democrats and yet they did nothing about water full of lead. Instead they blame Trump. :knife: :knife: :knife:

The private sector does it better. That is why Sweden ( a very left wing nation) privatized the Social Security, public transportation, and schools.

Flint happened for a number of reasons. The combination of poverty and Federal indifference being the most important. Republican lying also played a significant role.

Flint is quite poor. That kinda limits what they can do...

Interesting point, it was Rachel Maddow that championed the people of Flint, and made it a national issue.

American cities that have a 100% Democratic lefty local African American government are not doing well despite the fact that they have run these cities for over five decades. Other cities run by white lefty Democrats like LA, San Francisco, and Seattle are rapidly becoming dumps with human feces on the street and massive drug usage. Maybe they need some of the authoritarian repression you preach regarding climate change.

In Flint, the Republican governor did a coverup to avoid dealing with the problem.

You should also realise that Flint was actually run by a Republican, not elected Democrats. It was run by a state appointed Republican financial manager.

Now, is this trolling, or are we going to get real?

It only took five seconds before the Dems in charge blamed the Republicans.
No more, this is off topic.

For people like POD and AOC this is the golden opportunity to sneak an authoritarian socialist state. Because as we all know. the failures of prior socialists regimens was due to the fact that it was not real socialism.

IOW, now that it was proven you were wrong, you don't want to admit it.

A Republican appointed manager was running Flint, when things went to hell, the Republican governor did a coverup.

If it had been a White community, they would have gotten help, not a coverup.

Btw, that appointed manager business is anti-democracy, and racist.

Dayne Walling (born March 3, 1974) is an American politician who was the mayor of Flint, Michigan from 2009 to 2015. Walling is a member of the Democratic Party. The mayor was a Democrat and I don't think he was racist.

Dayne Walling was mayor of Flint, Michigan, for six years, but he is best remembered for a single day. On April 25, 2014, as news cameras rolled, Walling pushed the button that shut off the city’s connection to Detroit’s water system and switched it to the Flint River. Although Walling had not made the decision to draw water from the Flint River—that was decided by an emergency manager appointed by the state to usurp his mayoral powers—he executed the physical act that initiated the Flint water crisis. Once the switch was complete, he hoisted a glass of river water, toasting “Here’s to Flint!”

The water, of course, was found to be tainted with lead, as a result of engineers’ failure to treat it with corrosion controls. Hundreds of children have since been diagnosed with lead poisoning, and a dozen Flint residents died of Legionella from drinking river water. Walling never lived down that moment. Nor did he live down a morning TV appearance during which he drank a mug of Flint water and declared, “My family and I drink the water every day. … All of our tests, ever since this year, have been comparable with what we used to get out of Detroit.”
